yep I think Aramith are known as the best balls whatever your game is ... snooker, American pool or UK pool or carom ...

they are made by a Belgian company, Saluc ... here's their website www.saluc.com

here's a couple of interesting facts about their snooker balls from their website ... (a) it takes a five ton weight to break one of their balls and it will then break into a random powder - they are that consistently homogenous ... (b) if you hit a ball hard, you accelerate it from 0 to approx 20mph in a very short space of time which results in a "spot" temperature of 250c ...

going back to the original question though "what are the best snooker balls money can buy?" I don't know the answer ...

Aramith make Tournament Champion balls which are the balls used by the WPBSA tour and retail in the UK for around £90 per set ... they also make Super-Crystalate balls which retail for about £120 per set ...

I'm not sure of the difference - I'd guess the SC's have slightly lower friction so will spin more on higher friction (ie slower) cloths ... I guess this isn't needed by the professional tour as the play on ultra-fine cloths with table heaters so they are happy with TC's ...

BTW ... I bought a set of TC's for Xmas just gone by and, whilst they are not hugely different from club balls, they definitely do help with consistency IMO ... probably just as good as having a decent cue ...
