A new seniors snooker event takes place in Glenrothes on October 31 and November 1 featuring some of snooker's best known faces from the last three decades.

The 110sport-promoted tournament sees Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, John Parrott, Cliff Thorburn, Ken Doherty, Jimmy White, Tony Knowles and Tony Drago crossing cues

Higgins faces Thorburn as the 30th anniversary of their 1980 world final approaches. BBC coverage of that match was famously interupted by news footgae of the SAS storming the besieged Iranian embassy in London.

Hendry tackles Drago while White takes on Parrott and Doherty meets Knowles.

The matches will be available to view on 110sporttv in November.

“It will be great to see Alex back in action in Scotland and I’m sure there will be plenty of people wanting to see him,” Hendry said.

“Cliff Thorburn will be playing Alex in a re-match of the 1980 ‘SAS’ World Championship final. That match has top billing on Saturday night and rightly so.”

Day tickets for Saturday’s first round and the semi-finals and final on Sunday are available at the box office from Rothes Halls.

Full draw:
Saturday, October 31
2.00pm - Ken Doherty v Tony Knowles
4.00pm - John Parrott v Jimmy White
6.00pm - Stephen Hendry v Tony Drago
8.00pm - Alex Higgins v Cliff Thorburn

The last seniors event was staged nine years and won by Willie Thorne, who gives his views on the contenders on 110sport.tv. (http://www.110sport.tv/)https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/29605452-3534094832218165667?l=snookerscene.blogspot.com

John Parrott has pulled out due to a hernia, not sure who is replacing him, but I'll take my cue just in case :snooker:

Ray Reardon would make a good replacement..

Nigel Bond gets the Nod

but the pick of the matches is a 80s contrasting Throwback Alex Higgins vs Cliff Thorburn.

for me along with Davis v Higgins this match up defines that era.

Ray Reardon would make a good replacement..

It would be good if he joined too.. By the way, judging by photos, he really deserves his nickname, Dracula. Mark Davis might just be the Dracula of active pros though..

Matching Higgins with Thorburn is a good idea, referring to their entirely different playing styles..

Without doubt...i'm sure on the night there will be an electric atmosphere when these two take centre stage, like two heavyweight boxers entering the ring..

Wasn't sure if was best of 5 or 7, as looking at the order of play each match has a 2 hour slot before the next match, even though there's a chance some matches may run over..

Does anyone know if the legends games next weekend will be streaming anywhere? What a shame if it's not. For fans that live so far away, it's not fair that we aren't able to see these snooker greats play. I'm especially interested in the higgins thorburn games as higgins is one of my favourites and naturally I'd love to see thorburn being from vanvouver island. He's a home boy

Hey guys, much as I don't want to spoil the match, having seen Alex play a few weeks ago in Skegness and then Cliff this week in Padiham get your money on 4 nil to Cliff. Good news is they will be playing each other at the Crucible again next year as well.

absolutely mate, like you I love Alex but Cliff is putting in 7 hours a day practice whereas Alex seems one minute capable of being world class and the next like he's never held a cue. I guess thats why we love him eh?

Good to hear Cliff is taking it seriously and putting in the practise. I'm hoping Alex will have one of his magic spells and remind us of the "great player" he once was.

Here's hoping anyway..
