Well i bought a cheap cue from a friend last week to put me on, but the cue tip is hard and shiny and doesnt hold chalk very well. What i was thinking is, could i shape the tip a little with a nail file so it holds chalk better? Need to know fast as im going snookering in about 45 mins

yes! always file from the centre of the tip outwards ...

right, and that should make the chalk hold better? At the minute the top is quite flat, shall i just keep doing it until it is a little pointed at the top?

the surface needs to be slightly rough to hold chalk - not hard and shiny ... and you can shape the tip however you want - most people prefer a dome shape ...

Dont think its advisable to shape it that much . Smoe people like a flatish tip and others prefer a rounded shape similar to a D shape . This preference comes with experience and experimenting to find out which suits you better . I would just follow Dandy As advice and dont file upwards otherwise you,ll loosen the fibres and ruin the tip .

Doom shape will be very good already. Dont play with tip that is too thick. Try medium hard tip :)
