View Full Version : How many tables

As an American, I'm just curious about the average snooker rooms you guys in the UK play in. How many tables, snooker vs non snooker, how many busy tables generally, etc,,,,,,,. In my area there usually is 4-12 9 footers, maybe a half dozen 7 ft bar boxes for league play, and more often than not,,,,,no snooker. There is one room close by that actually has 2 10 ft snooker tables, but only one ever gets used. They say they lost the cue ball for the other one, ( which seems ridiculous to me), but it has the wrong cloth on it also and the locals say it is extremely slow, so no one ever plays on it.
Thanks

It's hard to find pool tables here in clubs. And if there is any, proportion will be like 100:5 maximum (pool tables mostly in bars/pubs and private homes). There are more than 200 snooker clubs alone in Bangkok (almost of them will have lady markies - who will help setting up new frams, put the balls back into play, send rests, get you drinks, etc, and the average tables for each club is about 8. 95% of the snooker table will be in full size (12 feet), and for Bangkok about 45% of all full size tables will be installed with tournament grade cloth and cashions. Quality club will charge about US$4-5 per hour of play, this includes markies (you have to tip her after your games). Private room is about US$6-10. You can smoke in almost of the clubs. You can order food and drink to your table providing that you don't dirty your snooker table. Most quality clubs will have airconditioners, and a small dining area.
Statistics from 2007, no udpate ever since.
But I do not know why we have so little good players
Perhaps, people here see snooker as a gambling games, and they don't encourage their kids to start this sport. By the way, there are hudnreds of players in Bangkok alone who play for their livings :D

The Epsom snooker club has 6 tables, 1 is competition quality. There is 1 pool table in the bar area. But, they're thinking of downsizing the snooker area to 4 tables and adding darts and more pool tables.. because that's where the money is. Sad, but true. It seems a bit random which nights are busy.. I've never had to wait for a table, but I tend to get there early rather than late, and all 6 tables have been busy on quite a few occasions.

.. I've also played at Frames in Coulsdon, which has at least 10 snooker tables upstairs, including one in a private room, and it has at least 5 pool tables downstairs. I can't recall the exact numbers.

Why are Rileys clubs unpopular? I've never been to one by the way.

13 full-size snooker tables in my club. Half-full during the day, full most nights.
However, two of the tables are about to go to make room for pool tables:mad:

I don't play for them or anything like that, go there mainly to practise so i can string more than a 15 break together, only been practising seriously a few months and then when i can which might not even be twice a week. If you see a tall bloke on his own potting blacks or colours off the spot or long straight pots cursing at the table than thats me.
Let us know how you get on tonight, good luck!

Why are Rileys clubs unpopular? I've never been to one by the way.
Our club North East Derbyshire Snooker Centre in Clay Cross, Chesterfield. It boasts 21 full sized lovely Riley tables that are well maintained. It really is a quality club and a great environment to play snooker in. (Waitress service, full bar and restaurant, eat food at your snooker table - not on it, of course, choice of real ales, good selection of cues / cases / accessories always in stock and great staff....)
As for Rileys, well my impression from travelling round is that they are 'hit and miss'. One I played at in Essex only had 2 less than average English Pool tables and was a bit scruffy... The Rileys in Chester however is quite good.
Only played snooker at our local one in Chesterfield once and the table was very slow. Think they have a lot of offers, but can be pricey if you have to pay full price. £8.50 an hour is nearly double our rate at Clay Cross and that's arguably the best value club in the UK...
All welcome - PM me if you want to visit and I'll arrange it for you...
