I notice on the updated tournament calendar that the August qualifiers for the October ranking event no longer appear - does this mean the end of the World Open I wonder?

As far as I know it will not take place unless a sponsor is found, it would be very unlikely that you will see this event in Scotland again unless a Scottish sponsor steps forward.

This is unbelievable. So there's no snooker on TV in the UK until December?!

I thought this game was supposed to be having a renaissance?

There is Snooker in the UK. It is on Eurosport. They are showing all the ranking tournaments as well as some of the overseas PTCs coming up.

I wasn't a fan of the World Open anyway. I felt the best of five format had got very boring by the end of the week.

Seems there is interest in Ireland to hold this one.

At WO, you were able to watch several matchs in a day & therefore many different snooker pros.
I found it more interesting than the so-so World Cup this month.

That's the rule of this single event. I'm OK with it.
It's a good way to discover some players.

Sometimes, in ranking event, you don't have to cry out wanting more !
When your favorite plays on the second table which is not televised !

The World Cup didn't work for me at all, I'm afraid.

The World Open was okay, but I found it had got really stale at the end of the week. Best of 5 just didn't feel like a match to me, and it was okay for a couple of days. But the constant rotation of matches spoiled it in my opinion, not enhanced it. A match that short doesn't tell a story in my opinion. A player going 2-0 down, and winning 3-2 is the only thing close to dramatic that can happen.

I'd rather watch one longer match, where a story is told and drama unfolds, then after 5 frames the two players leave and another 'match' starts. It was better then the World Cup though.

Well not everyone has satellite TV and I don't think snooker can afford to alienate those who don't.

Sounds like the World Open is going ahead in March, and is taking place in China. To be shown on Eurosport.

Yeah, except they were all different players, points scored, durations, shots played, the way the balls scattered. Apart from that they were all EXACTLY the same.

Your average snooker fan can get by without watching any of those you mentioned - as I do - so long as we have the main 4 BBC tournaments.

Grand Prix, Masters, UK, World.

They should stick to this. It's their core audience in the UK.

In Hainan.
No wonder why the Hainan Classic did not show on the calender.

Except there are now only three of those on the BBC now, as the World Open (as the Grand Prix is now called) isn't being shown on the BBC.

I couldn't do without Eurosport personally. I'd be appalled at having to miss the China Open, Shanghai Masters or the Welsh Open. I love all three of those tournaments. And the Australian Open this year was amazing, with one of the best finals I've seen in a long time. German Masters was short, but good. The venue itself was almost worth watching it for.

Things like the World Cup aren't going to be for everyone, and you could be excused for not sitting in front of live streams at your computer for 14-hours a day watching PTCs. But to be honest, Eurosport does bring you such a variety, there is something for everybody there. And I'd miss the ranking events it shows, if nothing else.
