Hi, I have played snooker for about 7 years now at home with my dad and occasionally my friends when they come over. I think I have the ability to become professional, so what steps should I take to become a pro or to test my self against a better quality of player?

Are you an amateur if not you can sign up to be an amatuer at http://www.englishsnooker.com/
If you are an amatuer then world snooker do compitions called the Q-School open to amatuers there are also amatuer events such as the world u21 or european u21 i think if you win one of those they give you a place on the tour im not sure im not amatuer yet but that would be your best bet but it also comes down to your age how old are you may i ask

No good just playing at home amongst friends, you need to enter all local competitions to see how you compare against the better players in your area

People will always ask how old you are and what's your highest break. They're looking for a guide as to just exactly where you are in your development as a player, and if your desire to be a pro has any basis in reality.

There was a great advert. on the tele. some years ago where an old lady asks a cab driver in New York "How do you get to Carnegie Hall ". The drivers answer was so true. "Lady - you've gotta practise". It sums up the answer to this thread very succinctly. F.

Impossible to answer unless you give an age and an average break score. But you can go to www.worldsnooker.com and enter Q school. The top 12 get onto the pro circuit. But you had better be good

If you think you have what it takes go for it. If your playing at high standard at the moment then try the Q school. Other than that you'll have to travel and put a lot of graft in to build up match practice and toughness. If Your just starting out, getting some coaching could save you a lot of wasted years doing the wrong things and stop you from developing bad habits.
Good Luck
