Hi, Im trying to find out information wbout this year's World Open which is usually held in September and in Glasgow but it seems impossible to find out when it's being held, tried a google search and barely anything is coming up, it seems like nobody even knows this tournament exists, the official world snooker website doesnt seem to acknowlege it's existence.
Does anyone have any idea whats going on with it as i'd like to go along to watch it.

As far as I can tell it has been resheduled for around March, but this has not been 100% confirmed so not been officially announced or in the schedule. It will also apparently be played in China.

thanks for all the replys, this is so annoying, it was the only local tournament i could attend and really enjoyed being at it, i understand why they would move it to a country where snooker is so big but still its a bit crap for the scots like me who want to attend a local pro tourny

Pity it is moving to China... the World Open was a unique event last year that lived up to its billing as "the FA Cup of snooker" with the amateur qualification process from Rileys clubs across the UK making it something really different. Now it looks like being just another standard, run of the mill ranking event to pacify the Chinese. :(

I realise they are looking to expand tournaments and events around the world but to once again leave Scotland without a ranking event (or any type of event) is mystifying.
I attended both the Grand Prix and World Open events and thoroughly enjoyed them but it looks like the Scottish crowd will be denied the opportunity to do so again.
Is this decision based on ticket sales? Memory serves me that Barry Hearn said he was pleased with ticket sales for Glasgow so why they have made this move is beyond me, although I would guess that money will somehow be at the heart of it.

Just been inited to play in the 2012 World Open in China. Then told it is a Main Tour event only and as I'm an amauter the invite has been withdrawn. Really gutted.

I do actually.
I would've actually enjoyed the World Open last year, but the matches were just too short to hold my interest. I had the week off work to watch it, and by the end was totally bored and nothihg that happened in the tournament stuck in my mind.
The only match I remember was the final, the one match that wasn't best of five.
