No, he would get the 5000 points he needs by reaching the Quarter Final.

Anyway, he will get the wildcard. He needs to go to the semifinal.

I disagree - if Luca gets a fair go and a competent referee he will go past King, his natural ability will take him over the line especially in a longer match like this 19f qualifier. One thing can be said about Michael Holt, he is a loser and he will always be a loser, you can be sure that at his age Luca Brecel wont have to hack around qualifiers to get into tournaments.

I watched the game live.

There was enough room for the young lad to play the shot he attempted, but he made a mess of it on the first try.

The ref made an error in replacing the balls following the miss meaning the shot he'd settled on originally wasn't on. A human error, simple. Forgivable since Luca won though.

It should have been called a miss because he hit it within a few attempts of playing around the angles, which I was screaming at my laptop for him to do from the start.

Glad he won, Michael Holt was very disrespectful. Luca may have been fortunate with where he left his missed shots but you're not forced to leave your opponent anything. I think if Holt didn't act like such a colossal twat and maintained his composure, he would have won the tie comfortably,

I'd like to see Luca beat King but on that form he's got his work cut out for sure and will struggle to get 5 frames on the board. Hopefully he moves up the gears.

Very good mini-session from Jamie Jones, he's 4 - 0 up on Walden and deservedly so.

Seems harsh. I wouldn't call him a loser, he played some very nice snooker and made a couple of pressure clearances. I did think he should have had a go at the pink in the final frame.

Jamie Jones goes into the second session with an 8 - 1 lead over Ricky Walden, so it looks like he's probably on his way to the crucible.

Unfortunately no :) wish I did.

Did you see the first half between Ricky Walden and Jamie Jones ? Jones leading 8-1 should have had a few quid on him? They have a real gem of a referee - he keeps getting the scores wrong, places balls incorrectly and awarded Ricky Walden a free ball, Walden said it's NOT a free ball and went about his business, good sport, shame an incompetent referee spoils it all, I think he is Pete Williamson? may have heard his name before. Wouldn't it be a blast if they selected him to referee one of of the televised matches??? - the playing standard is higher then it has ever been, there is nothing between the qualifiers and the top 16 which is good to see, especially the younger players coming along, next year we will have Hossein Vafaei Ayouri on the main tour, another very exciting young prospect, I had the chance to spend a bit of time with him at the last IBSF he is a very modest young man who loves to practice - 12 hours a day is not enough for him. Ding had better hurry if he is going to put a World title on his resume;:snooker:

anyone see that ton by Brecel? If you get a chance to see it I recommend you do. Fantastic break compliled mainly on the pink as the black was tight on the side pocket. Potted a great recovery yellow when he was out of position and the final few balls were simply breathtaking pots, made Trump look like a club player he hits the ball so sweet.

Beating King from 8-8 just about bettered the holt win.

King made it as difficult as he could with toilet breaks and stopping to get audience quiet, all within the rules of coarse, but it could have broken brecel concentration and it didnt.

Havin said that king will admit he didnt play great and still got 8 frames. Doesnt take from the performance from brecel tho, wasnt afraid to get over the line again.

I'd like to see him play Trump or Robertson in round one and I can see an O'Sullivan Vs Ebdon getting pulled out of the hat tomorrow which would be worth it just to see Ronnie's face.

I agree with you totally. I was watching his match with Mark King, live online, ended at almost 1am my local time here. I'm especially impressed at how he handled his emotions in frame 17. If he had lost that frame, the tally would have been 9 frames each and the final outcome would probably be different again!

Maguire has had a quiet year, aside from the German Masters where he made the final. Since then, he's lost to a number of lower ranked players.. Maguire's ranking is probably about where I'd place him in the top-16 pack, so Brecel has drawn a middling seed in that respect, there are worse draws and better ones he could have had. Ultimately no draw was going to be easy for him - these are the best players in the world after all :)

Not sure about that one... Yes, he lost in the 1st round of the World Open to Robert Milkins, but other than that, a quarter-final at the Welsh Open, a semi-final at the PTC Finals, and another final at the China Open. I would say that's a pretty good run ahead of the World Championship. ;)

Not sure about that one... Yes, he lost in the 1st round of the World Open to Robert Milkins, but other than that, a quarter-final at the Welsh Open, a semi-final at the PTC Finals, and another final at the China Open. I would say that's a pretty good run ahead of the World Championship. ;)

Hrm.. seems I was looking at an old page of results, missing the more recent ones :p

He picked up the danger man of the qualifiers, I'd say. Luca has already exceeded the expectations and will not be under any sorts of pressure to get a win in the arena as a 17-year-older. That can make a difference.
Still, an in-form Maguire will prove too much to handle, to be honest. But I'm looking forward to this one. One good match this could be (=

That said, he'll be the 5th 17-year-old to play at the Crucible, and the other four all lost...

He wasn't expected to win any of his 4 qualifiers so who knows..

Then again, maybe he's doomed to wilt under the heat lamps of the Crucible anyway and this is all just necessary experience for his maturity.
