Can I stop emails arriving to tell me someone has replied to one of my posts?

I can imagine my work's server, or at least the people who try to stop them crashing evey nanosecond, will soon be fed up of it!

Certainly. Emails are being sent because you've subscribed (knowingly or otherwise) to certain threads.

Click the 'My panel' button at the top. From there, go to 'Edit Options'. Look for 'Default thread subscription mode' and switch it to 'Do not subscribe' or 'No email notification'. That'll stop automatic subscription in the future.

To unsubscribe from threads you're already subscribed to: Go to my panel, 'List subscriptions', check all of the tickboxes on the right, select 'No email notifications' or 'Delete subscription' from the dropdown box and finally click 'Go'.
