Apparently serious discussions are underway for a Darts legends Tour, which could well be televised, with well know dart players from the late 1980,s and early 1990,s Eric bristow, john lowe, bob anderson, deller, bobby george are some othe the names mentioned for this.. jocky wilson is also a name being mentioned and he said in a darts world interview he would be up for it. I noticed most of this talk while i was looking at the john lowe website and according to lowe the Legends tour is aimed specifically at television audiences.. Im to young to remember Eric and the rest of these names at their best, so im looking forward to see what standard they can still play at, compared to Taylor and the top players of today..

Very interesting to see. I'd love to watch it. Bobby George is a great character and Eric Bristow is one of the best players ever.

No one will ever compare to Phil Taylor though. That man is nearly robotic. Even Bristow says Taylor is much better than he ever was.

used to really enjoy eric bristow playing darts. a real character.

saying that taylor isnt as much a character, but is awesome to watch, most times.

yeah Taylor is awsome i agree, hes in a class of his own for sure....13 world championships and hes still playing at the top of his game... but it will be great to see Eric and jocky on stage playing, even if they arent as consistent as they used to be 10 years or more ago. Im sure it will be great tv and the atmosphere will be electic, havng these players playing once again!

It's inconceivable how anybody can class Bristow as the all time great darter ahead of Taylor.

Taylor is probably more dominant and more invincible than Davis and Hendry were in snooker, and for a lot longer than both Davis and Hendry combined.

Bristow's best of his heyday of a low 90's 3-dart averages (which was considered phenomenal at the time) when he was dominant in darts in the 1980's would never live with Taylor's constant 3 figure 3-dart averages.

That's why Taylor beat Bristow the first time they met. ;-)

Those were the days. Though I have to say darts is having more momentum than Snooker at present!

The Power, awesome. Best ever. Best final I saw was John Part beating him in a decider. What a match! BDO cant challenge that, alas

Who will be running this legends tour? Hopefully it will be independent of the BDO and PDC because if not then it will end up as a total mess - a BDO-run tournament, for example, might omit players like John Lowe, Bob Anderson and Eric Bristow who have been involved with the PDC for years.

Also, what would the standard of darts be like? There are some "legendary" players who are stil earning good money on the PDC circuit - Bob Anderson is ranked in the top 16, John Lowe is around the top 50, Dennis Priestley is on the verge of top 10, John MaGowan is rising up the ranks (I think he's inside the top 50)...hell, even Kevin Spiolek is starting to improve again!

Players like Jocky Wilson are either retired or disillusioned with the game, yet they are still regarded as heroes, but would you really want to see Wilson return for one tournament just to get caned by an in-form Priestley or Anderson? Personally, I don't think It's fair on either the fans or the players.

What I'd really like to see is a tournament with a special invite reserved for Sid Waddell - considering that he rants on about the players so much, let's see how good he actually is at darts!

I would definitely pay good money to see him get whitewashed!

I need to stop before I try to write about what I honstly think of Waddell and his constant arse-kissing of Taylor and....yes, I'd better stop - this is meant to be a snooker forum after all.

For those of us interested in a piece of darts nostalgia a dvd of the 1980 World Final between Eric Bristow and Bobby George has just been released and it's cheap at about £5. Hopefully, more dvd's from that era will be released soon.

well barry hearn isnt running it, hes slagging it off before it starts... quote

"I'm not going to stand in the way of anyone who wants to be a part of it - I've no problem ripping up their PDC contract.
"But someone like Bob Anderson has to decide whether it's worth going over to that (the Legends) for a year and then having to re-apply to join us. That time away would see him fall way down the rankings, and he'd effectively have to start again with us.
"My feeling is the crowd might have to be holding up '60' and not '180' when the Legends play. I'm not sure the standard will be all that great.
"We'll have to see if TV viewers decide it's too much darts."

So any player currently playing for the pdc will not be allowed to play the legends tour.

How apt, as I just mentioned that in the other thread on seniors snooker.
Do you know if it any of it is going to be televised?

Cheers Marc - looking forward to it. I got setanta in last year and rarely used aside from the odd football game, so I won't ditch it for a while yet.

The League of Legends had their official press launch at Old Trafford yesterday, shown here, on the Setanta site...

Bristow, Lazaranko lowe and Bob Anderson were there.

Saw an artical on Jockey Wilson awhile back, the man is a lonner with no contact to the world around him, his ex-wife is the only person the has contact with him, and he suffers from manic depression. Its really sad that a sports man that was top of the ranks has been let down by his sport, living in a one bed flat with no help. No help has come from the profession he played for, his wife was saying. But what a battler Jockey was.

yepp sad indeed

Hes still married tho and he and his wife Malvina moved into a better house in Kirkcaldy last year. He suffers diabetis and depression and spends all his days in bed watching tv.

The only times he goes out of the house is for a trip to the doctors. he was asked to play in the legends darts but he doesnt wanna know, he says all thats behind him and in the past..

He hasnt chucked a dart for over 10 years now but he still watches his old mates on playing on skysports.. Jocky has been invited to several functions with a name your price + limo service to & from his home, he was flattered by all the offers but has unfortuneatly declined all of them. He still has a problem being seen anywhere in public .
