  • Standard cue case length?

    Hello everybody.

I came from the pool planet. There there is only one case length, of 29" to 30" length, no matter how many shaft or butt spaces it has. I recently came to the snooker planet and learned that the 3/4 split cue can have a butt length varies from 12" to 16". So the shaft length varies too.

Are all the cue cases of standard sizes and can fit all those different lengths? If yes, I could imagine it would be very spacious inside and the cues are swinging around when you carry them, not good for the pin.

Or, say if you have a 58" cue and a 14" butt then you can find a case which has a long 44" compartment for the shaft and a shorter 14" compartment for the butt? It seems weird for the remaining empty space of you don't have a butt extension. Oh, butt extension! How do you know it can fit into that remaining space?

In general, how do I know my cue with fit into a case that I see online, if the case doesn't come with the cue?

Lastly, do people use cue tube for a 3/4 cue?

    Thanks a lot.

i'd say a standard 3/4 case is usually around 50" with 2 channels. 1 for the shaft and 1 for the butt, mini butt, and long extension. this should hold both short and long butted cues. sometimes you see shorter cases that can only fit long butted cues. also less commonly you see 3 channel wide cases. i think the best and most flexible is having the channels made of foam and no dividers. the cue is squeezed between the foam so it doesn't slide around. the ones with no foam, the cue does knock around a bit. also the dividers can make the case less flexible if you have a different cue config, but probably needed to keep the parts from banging into each other in non-foam case. you can also get tube style cases for 3/4 cues, but it's not as popular.

No no. I just thought it would be confusing to put them all in one post. People would have a harder time sorting out posts when they search.

Maybe it would be harder to take the short butt out of a tube.
