  • Side Spin and Other Spin!

Hey all, ive been playing around 2 year and im quite a good potter. I recently made a high break of 32 I struggle with position, because i dont use side that much incase i miss the pot. Any suggestions on simple exercises to improve using side spin?
Next, i cannot seem to screw back far, i can screw yes but when i try a deep screw or medium screw back, the white doesnt come back or i jump the cue ball! Any suggestions?
Lastly, topspin, i ususally try to power the shot in so the topspin takes effect, i usually miss the pot when trying to play with alot of top. For example, potting the green from its spot, trying to force round the angles for a red near the pink. Any help?

    Thanks all!

I want to improve as ive been spotted as a good player and recently signed up for our local team

    Hi Boxy

In my opinion, side spin shots are very advanced shots and only needed to gain position when u run out of position... i try not to use any side except on colors & when they're on their spots coz the reaction to side is easier to predict... it's a matter of trial & error at the beginning untill u get the hang of it, there are certain rules to apply of course but i'm sure opinions differ on this one depending on the type of shot used or whether it's running side or check side.

As for screw shots, u may wanna check this thread: http://www.thesnookerforum.com/coach...help-4665.html

With regards to power shots, u have to take it easy at first & increase the cue power through your follow through rather than the use of uncontrolled power coz then, u will be subjected to power errors as u won't be hitting the cue ball exactly where intended but i'm sure it will come with practice

Hope this helps u even a lil & good luck with your game

Even if you practiced every day you probably wouldn't have achieved a century at that age as it takes a rare talent. I probably wouldn't have, and i'm certain that a huge percent of the population wouldn't have.
I'm certainly not trying to downgrade your achievment as you should be proud of it. If you keep practicing you may one day knock in a ton. Stephen Hendry didn't start playing until he was 13, and he became the best player the game has seen.

Don't take it the wrong way, melinator. I was just saying that it takes a rare talent and I was trying to tell you not to get to cocky. You obviously have talent, so keep practicing.
Maybe you are one of that few. I don't know, just don't get big-headed.

                      hi

hi mate,i'm glad to help u and my highest break is 58.
i've been breaking through the hardship u talked above,of course it's a real
                      difficult stage.
The first i wanna tell u, when you once have a break 50 without side spin, then in the later stage, u will naturally get the hang of the spin gradually.
so as u can see, u have already a good break without using side spin.so keep going like that, u will refresh your break record time and time again.
The last, i think your other questions come out of your stability. If you have a good coach , ask him and correct your stance and cue action. with more and more practice you'll find the high break is so simple.!
                      i hope u have a good luck ~~ break through it !
