  • Barracuda snooker cue.

    hey guys.

I bought a Barracuda snooker cue off e-bay over a year ago for about £85, used to carry it in a soft over-the-shoulder case. I realised this f*****g case had a hole in the bottom only when the butt of the cue had fallen out never to be found again! The cue had a strange name, something like barracuda GR3, can't remember exactly; just wondering if anyone knows how i could get a replacement butt?

I've never seen any of these Barracuda cues since and i loved the cue, really started to develop a relationship with it. I still have the shaft, as useless as it is.

    thanks for any help.

the quality will depend on the age - if its old enough it was made by kevin muncaster of north west cues if its more modern it was made by mastercraft cue makers or more modern still it was made in china - whatever it makes no difference any cue maker can make a replacement butt for you - try your nearest one - where do you live? PM me and i will put you in touch.

If it's less than 3 years old the problem will be that it has painted/lacq splices and that make blending in a new butt a real pain has you dare not sand the shaft.

The chinese tend to have all sort's of horror under the surface of thie so called Ebony.

I had a similar problem with an Adam cue

The worst I had was a cue that a guy had paid over £100 for from Custom Snooker/Geordie Pool on Ebay

When we sanded the splices it was hard to see where the ash started, don't know what wood it was? but it was an ash colour and very dense even without the filler

So in the end we sanded the butt has well. think it went in our car boot sale stock
I was pleased to get £15 for it

its terrible this business for that - the trouble is people want jet black and they don't realise that these days if its totally black then its painted or dyed!

lol Bitters bitter experience. Am I the only one whose happy with his Geordie Pool Chew man Chin cue?

Why are we all so obsessed with ebony anyway? Perfectly black ebony looks like plastic and comes at such a premium it'll be dearer than snakewood soon.

It's not so much an obsession with ebony has with real wood.
I just don't like wood painted to look like something it ain't and has we have already said it makes repairs re finishing etc impossible.

In fact I recently designed and sold a cue using purple heart instead of Ebony and it turned out great.

Unfortunately when I re-vamped my website I lost the images of it.

It was a little light for me at a little under 17oz but customer is very happy with it
