  • Dream cue.

9mm Talisman soft tip short brass ferrel, pinkish steamed pearwood shaft tapered as per the mannock design, jointed at 1/3rd with brass airlock type joint, no splices at all to as white as can get spalted mapel butt with no wedge and minibutt made of same pearwood.

Anyone else got such a kinky taste?

If i've wetted the appitite but you dont know what wood you like take a look at the webs most extensive wood site with more pics and descriptions than you ever thought possible..

i've always fantasized about a "stealth" cue
don't ask me why but i always have

at times, i've also fantasized about a "chameleon" cue but this time i know why... it would change color according to which color i'm trying to pot (so i wouldn't have to keep calling a color)

Thats not so impossibe as you may think Sam. I've got an old bce two piece all ash jimmy white poolmaster cue. Played with it for 7 years or so then thanks to the advice given here as to how to treat a cue i sanded it down to the bare wood did the buisness with linseed etc and painted the butt half with ford metallic red paint and applied lacquer to it. Looks pretty and plays better than it ever did. Nothing stopping you doing the same with the chamelian two tone type of paint as used on TVR's cars.

There are things id like to try. Ive never played with a pear shafted cue or indeed greenheart or hickory, all of which id love to try.

If you're after something different, how bout a titanium (or other expensive/odd metal) ferrule? A nice piece of maple for a shaft - something with a really nice colour. Maybe African Blackwood for the butt. Mind you I love olivewood so maybe that instead........

Does indeed look nice. Lovely colour, although ive heard that pear is somewhat less stiff that either maple or ash (obviously depends on the piece of wood in question).

Ah yes I do remember you showing me that pic before. Quite stunning

Pearwood's pretty much a non starter though if finding a piece stiff enough is so rare. It was the fact no other wood compares for smoothness that appealed really and it's colour of course, nothing like standing out from the crowd is there.:0

I've been looking for a pic of a guitar back i thought i'd saved a while ago. Wetted maple it was and quite an extrodinary rush of colouring and grain. I'll carry on looking and post it if I can along with the question can cue quality maple be wetted to produce simlar and then dried enough to still be a usable shaft?

as much as i like it, i'd probably feel very odd playing with a dark-ish shaft

                    certainly looks very smooth!!

Well, talk about coincidences, Following my last post I sat down to watch the England v Russia match on the box and although the game was going in our favour It just showed me how much I prefer to play snooker or pool nowadays as at half time we were on our way to Jella's (Midland snooker club Bilston) Missed hardly anything anyways as theres a big tv screen there and we watched and played pool at the same time for the first half hour or so. Once the match was over the place became pretty much deserted. No one was in the snooker room, no one playing american pool and only Jella and another guy was playing English pool besides me and my son Alex.
When Alex went to the loo, Jella was called away to the phone at the same time and I looked across at Jella's mate and his cue.

Thats pearwood, thought I. Nah cant be, its the lighting in here surely. Besides whats the odds of the only two other guys playing in here one with a pearwood cue and the other a hickory (already knew Jellas cue) pretty remote chance thought I. But it was, and it was a beauty too multi spliced thoya burr, Brazilian Rosewood another burr Am--- something? another type of rosewood and ebony to boot. Sorry but even only having had four pints my memory is shot to pieces. Next time I see him Craig xxx (thought it was Craig Slater but no) I'll see if i can get some pics . Really was a cracker but there again for £750 it ought to have been. There again he might beat me to it and post some himself If he remembers the snookerforum dot com better than i remember his last name.

Im boring as far as dream cues go lol

The only thing i would really want is the ash to be perfect how i like it on the shaft, slim taper with a 'traditional' style butt splice.

i agree to the "traditional" decorative butt splicing
