  • steve davis's ye olde ash

    hi all

was wondering about steve davis's cue, on loads of pics the ebony on his cue looks jet black, but most if not all ye olde ash cues today have stripey ebony butts?
anyone have an answer on this, was alking to dave at craftsman cues a while ago and he said all ye old ash had stripey ebony butts

maybe steves was a total one off

Steve's cue does not have the original butt. JP totally remade that cue as it was falling to pieces. It has a new butt section from where the joint is.
Really it is hardly a Ye Old Ashe cue in that sense as it has literally been re-built a few times.

Because I like cue investigations and to bring back some nostalgia, this is from LettsGuide 'Successful Snooker'. Fist picture inside the book, stripey ebony (not the best picture though):

I bought a cue the other day which i believe to be maccassor ebony. Looks jet black from a couple of feet away in the bright sunlight never mind in a photo.

It's all rubbish, the Nugget's cue is and always has been originally manufactured by Riley. He found out recently and decided to put a badge on the butt to clear up things.
