yes i noticed the ye olde ash. i didn't think boroughs and watts made cues 59 inches long. i thought they were all 58.

its possible they made 59" cues but to find a perfect condition 59" ye olde ash sounds unlikely to me - i would need a picture of the weight stamp to be sure but my guess is that its tony ions.

It was sold to someone who had seen it because the seller didnt know whether the badge was 100% genuine or not?

Looked real enough to me though......

I personally think this cue is a replica.

The badge is in far too good condition to be an old cue.

I've seen a Tony Ions replica at Craftsman Cues that looks exactly like this one.

Tony Ions should be banned from making replicas of old cues. Its all well and good recreating a design but going the full hog and creating an identical badge and weight stamp I think is going along the lines of fraud.
What is to stop him making replicas of Parris or Trevor White for instance. I'm sure they wouldn't like it and would take action against him.

Trouble is when people get information that old cues are worth a lot of money and they go to someone like him and get a replica of it, then they put it on Ebay and make a profit.

people will only pay what something is worth. a tony ions replica of a second edition ye olde ash would cost about the same as a second edition ye olde ash.

But that isn't the point I'm making though. Ions has made a name for himself as a replica cue maker and this in itself is my main gripe.

true and a fair point but is it any worse than parris charging £770 for an ultimate? once again that is based on a reputation gained by giving cues away.

Yeah but JP makes cues for many professional players and to be fair has built up his reputation through hard work and very good marketing.

Tony Ions makes some great cues, not only replicas, i think it is ok if someone is having a replica made for there own collection or to use a playing cue, its if someone has a replica made and use it for a couple of months or a year or whatever and then sells it on claiming to be the real thing, that is the problem, ut it isnt tony's fault, there not much anyone can do to stop this, unless the makers of the original cues say something etc......

Like cueman says, Parris have a good reputuation because most of the top 16 used to use his cues, most now use others.......

But he has built his reputation up and therefore deserves whatever someone will pay for one of his cues, when someone buys and ultimate they know what they are getting, if someone buys a burwat champion or a rare cue thinking it is real and it turns out to be fake that is where the problem lies.....

but only if people have paid too much for a cue - for example a burwat champion should fetch what 150-250 and that is the sort of money you would have to pay for a copy aswell i don't see the problem in general? the truth is nobody these days is going to buy a first edition ye olde ash for a grand without having it checked by tony ions and/or andy hunter etc.. first anyway! tony can't be held responsible for people selling them as originals and i don't really see why you would bother look how much this one went for

                            - thats at least £100 more than the last cannon match i put on ebay!

i for one have more of a problem with the gaining/buying a reputation by association.

Same style cue is for sale on ebay for £45 at the minute with a day and a half left, i think the only problem is when people are selling them as the genuine article when they know they are reproductions.

Only problem is in years to come when there are that many fakes around its going to be hard to tell what is real and what is a repo, cue collectors nightmare!
