I would suggest the question lies with how squarish the player address the cueball, along with the wingspan.

I have a mate who insist on having a 58 inch cue as he is 1.80 (that is 6-1 btw) meters tall.

However, he simply can't cue straight, has no pause in the cueing action (unlike the talent of jimbo, this guy often put a lot of unintended side because of this) and has a 15inch bridge. This is largely due to his misconception--he felt he had to hold the cue at the very very end for all his shots. With his squarish approach to the cue ball, a 57" cue would more than suffice.

You need a cue that offers you enough bridge length (that is within your ability to cue straight and true) and still have a good 3-5 inch left where you hold the butt for some awkward shots. The problem with having a cue longer than you are, is that you might feel uncomfortable taking on shots with the cue ball so near the cushion. This is largely a question about the balance of the cue.

its not as simple as your height equals the length of cue you should use.
ones set up/length of bridge and even length of arms (arm span is normally the same as your height. i however am 5'9" and have an arm span of 6') can make a difference. so each persons requirements are different. i use a 57 1/2" cue but J Higgins is same height and uses 55 3/4" G Dott even smaller cue and he is about 5'5".

the cue is only part of a very big problem.
what I am trying to stress is that the length of the cue is not strictly co-related to your height.

very true but if you are 7'4" a 54" cue is maybe not the way to go! it does give a sort of idea its just not the only factor or a defining one.

i am the same i have swaped between 58.5 and 59 inches for years still don't know what suits me best - stop thinking about it so much and practise more i guess!
