  • Can you suggest the best thing to pls?

    Hello all,

I am from Hong Kong and i was looking for a snooker cue around 100-200 pounds.

3 months ago i ordered one online from matchplay cues. the cue cost me around 123pounds including shipping.

When i received it, there was some pieces missing from a red veneer strip, i attached a photo. i sent the exact photo to him to view.

I contact the guy, he said the postage will be expensive for me to send back for repair, he can only offer me to select any new cue but at half price.

I am perosnally not happy with the offer, since i can post it back for much lower cost.

But can you suggest if it is a resaonable deal to buy another cue, or i should fight for a refund?

    Thanks, i appreciate.

It does only look like a discoloured piece but you said "pieces missing" If it is merely the colour I'd say forget it as it's no big deal it's merely natural or maybe a piece with not so much stain in it. but if it's sort of pitted/dented point that out to him telling him your going to send it back and ask for a refund of what you paid for it including postage to you (the ££123) but not the postage from you to him as it is faulty goods.

There again you could possibly sand out the pitting if its not too deep or apply some stain if it is the colour only yourself for less than it's going to cost you in postage. If thats the route you choose post again theres a few guys here who'd let you know how to go about it i'm sure.

        Thanks Wity

Thanks Wity for your good advice and analysis.

The part was not discoloured, it was "missing red bits" on the strip, and i am seeing through to the brown wood, which is not curable by myself.

        But thanks once again mate.

Sounds like the veneer which is very thin to start with just got a bit oversanded during the finishing stage then?

            Maybe

            Yeah Wity,
It could be oversanded, but i just didn't expect quality was as such for that cost when i first received it. I think it should not be dispatched at the first place, unless they miss spotted it.....really can't be bothered to do anything now .

In all honesty it doesn't look too bad. I'd be ****ed off were it a very expensive cue as you'd expect it to look nigh on perfect. but you look closely enough at almost any cue and you'll find something not quite perfect. One of the problems of buying without handling first I suppose.

btw ever been in the cueshop in hong kong? think thats what it's called i'll see if i can find a link. They look to be a decent supplier with a big range of english cues and i've seen some good comments made about them on hong kong based message boards.

Thats the one I was thinking of cheers. Totally wrong with the name but I knew the page had a shop door with Parris on it lol.

If I were in Hong Kong and after a snooker cue that'd be the place to go. I'd probably come out with a Deroo cue though I love the style of mixing the typically traditional English cue with a subtle bit of American inlay work such as
                  this one..

He's also the only snooker cue maker i've heard of to make a low throw laminated ash cue if anyone's ever gonna convince me they are the future it'd be him.
