  • JX Cues

I am looking getting the JX20 from ebay as I cannot see a difference between this one and the Ronnie one for the money, except that the JX comes with more extras.

What are peoples experiences of these cues and would you recommend getting this or not?

i suppose it depends how serious you are about the game.

Both are ok average cue's but are cheaply made and mass produced.

Search the forum for posts about craftsman, omin, peradon, etc. you would be much better off buying a second hand, handspliced/handmade cue than one of your choices for that budget - if not it would be worth saving and buying one of the above names new. (trust me its worth the extra to know what your gettin for the money)

I'm sure someone else could drop a few more brands into the equasion, but like i say, use the search function, you'll be suprised how much info you can gather on here.

I'm not looking to spend over £50 though so I'm not sure i'll get much for more for that??

As long as it is smooth wood when potting and half decent thats all I am bothered about.

both of your choices will be heavily varnished so not that smooth - go with the ROS if any.

Try searching on here first for some receommended makers and then look on ebay for a second hand one.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking for a brand new cue though but thanks for the suggestion.

The reason I like the JX is because of the extensions and case n that.
Now I currently have a £20 BCE cue which I got for £20 from JJB a couple of years ago and a mate I played against got a £40 riley one from JJB and you can really tell the difference, just with these. I just thought the JX one might be similar to a £40 riley but just with extra goodies as I'm not wanting an amazing cue or anything.

Jx aka Joshua Xavier is a chinese company (registered it's location as Birmingham via Ebay using some relatives address probably) The owners brother owns B.S. cues or so I was told by a Chinese woman selling B.S. and now JX and Riley cues via ebay using a Canadian ebay location. (Riley being another Chinese company)

Your right in that the cue sets are better value than those offered by JJB sports but JJB are notorious for having a tremendous mark up of the cheapest quality goods the world can produce.

Off subject a mo check this out about JJB
            http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/...,00.html?f=rss

Not bad eh 190 million ! lol I 've the video here of the 1960 cup final when he last played football and broke his leg ending his career. Must have been what they call a "Lucky break"

Anyways, JX chinese cues according to that woman are not as good as the B.S. ones but the bottom line is they are all cheaply made low quality, The bottom of the line even by Chinese standards.. Expect uneven splices, wood that is stained or painted, and probably hardly at all seasoned. Ash shafts that may well warp unless you sand them down, oil them and keep your fingers crossed, and butts that are liable to cracking on the ends. The ali cases are ok, the telescopic extensions are too though they only fit some other cues. So £40 aint bad even if the cue goes in the greenhouse after a month.

lol I've 3 of these cues to photograph and put on ebay. wonder if i should set up an Ebay alias. If a buyer sees this he'll be after my guts for garters unless i put: "Firewood in an ali case" in the description.

Thanks for that, compared to the cues that are sold in JJB for £30-40, would you say that this would be better or worst than these?

If you have £50 to spend try a machine spliced Craftsman or Omin both are very good value at that price.

I've seen the JJB ones and they are dreadful Dont touch them with a bargepole. They are painted and lacquered butts probably made from cheap Ramin and the shafts I saw had the ugliest grain to them any tree could produce.

Just took a photo of the best of them I have gimme a mo and i'll get it uploaded and post a pic it's yours for £40 including postage if you want it.

Ash shaft very straight grain but no pretty v's
                        57"
18 or 18.5 oz (my scales aint up to much)
9mm -9.3 mm tip (difficult to actually measure and i've only got 9mm tips so i'll only be sure if i put one on)
Rosewood butt that actually matches the rosewood in the shafts splices (rare for bs/jx)
3/4 joint and butt joint are both okay.
One butt splice is approx 4mm shorter than the rest. (Charly chin the cue maker must have run out of rice wine and made his first sober cue)
Splices in the shaft are not so even varying to the biggest difference of 10mm
Very nice looking front splice of cocobolo wood.

Mini butt is probably ramin ebonised (means stained in english)
                        Telescopic ext is perfect
                        Case is perfect too

Bought it back in January for £45 and it's never been used. All I'v done is sanded the shaft applied Linseed oil and beeswax.

It's a B.S. cue that now glides through your hand having got rid of that nasty lacquer. Left the butt untouched as lacquer on that does not matter and I did not fancy sanding it down. Not a brilliant cue by any means but looked after it'll do the occasional player for a long time i reckon.
I bought 3 as I say back in January all different designs my son had one which i'm putting back on ebay it's developed a slight crack in the butt. The other i sanded all the top piece and found the rosewood no matter how much or how fine a grade I used feels mottled now and neither of them have wood in the splices that matches the grain. Anyways we kept the cases so they aint no use for you.

Why sell at a loss ? At £40 I'm probably breaking even when you take ebay charges into account. I'd probably get more on ebay but I'd have to either give just a basic description or bull**** it up some as the chinese do. Least this way you know what your getting and my concious is clear.
