  • Snooker cue pool

    Hi,

Is it damaging to a snooker cue if you play pool with it. Asides from the fact that a smaller tip on a larger ball might cause unintended spin, is it physically damaging to the integrity of the snooker cue? I would think it wouldn't because the balls are made out of the same material..

I would doubt it is, I have twice, must have looked stupid going into that pub and taking it out.
Played my friends with it in a club also, I was more confident using it, they didn't win much at all. I can't see why it would be really, but I bet someone is going to come out with a complicated explanation proving me wrong. We'll see.

Typically snooker cues have a tip 9-10mm tip and English Pool players (with smaller balls) play with a 8-9mm tip so many who play both will use the same cue and go for something about 9mm.
I would imagine breaking off with an 8mm tip on an American table is going to do some damage sooner or later as most use about what a 13mm tip? but having seen an 100 year old snooker cue with an 8mm tip being used with tremendous power albeit with a hickory shaft and on an English pool table I reckon the type of wood it's stiffness and its taper is will determin the outcome more so than the tip size.
According to www.acuerate.com they claim a 10mm tip for American pool is best and back it up with test results on Predators and Meccusi's robots in the USA, but thats just their claim.
