  • Question on the grip

    Hi,
I am trying to learn the game of snooker on my own, so please bear with me if my question is too plain and simple.
I would like to ask you how do you grip your cue--do you always touch the cue with the V of your hand? Does it sit in your fingers, or in your palm? Do you always open up on the back?
I used to have a very loose grip, the cue mostly rests in my 2nd and 3rd fingers. I find that it has allow me to control my cue ball really well, and is quite accurate in half table length. However, with power table length shots, I have much better result with a more "close" grip, which is to put the cue more in the palm of my hand, with all three fingers. With my loose grip, the cue sometimes slides away.
But with this "close" grip, when I get nervous, I tend to hold my cue too tight, and then I miss a lot of balls.
I notice on TV that most of the top pro such as Shaun Murphy, Stephen Hendry, seem to be holding their cue with a more "close" grip.
    I am confused. Please advice.
    Thank you.

I hold the cue in the cirlce-shape that is made when you felx the forefinger all the way round to rest on the thumb.

The cue goes in the "hole", and the second finger also comes around and provides extra support whilst holding the cue - so I effectively hold it with the thumb and first 2 fingers.

The remaining 2 fingers hang loose, they don't touch the cue. As I start cueing, they then come into contact with the cue. Doing this sort of brings the wrist into play during cueing, and allows you to generate more cue power than by holding it with all of your fingers, with your thumb then wrapped around.
