  • "Fake" Cues

I keep reading on here "Is such a cue on ebay a genuine one or a fake".

Can I make a few points regarding replica cues -

1)My good friend Tony Ions makes replica cues, he doesnt make fake cues. He makes replicas of cues so that you and I can have an old looking cue that will have a good modern stiff shaft so that it can be used in the modern game. 99% of old cues are no good for playing with as too whippy especially if you start to retaper the shaft down to 9.5mm tip.

2)Every serious collector will be able to tell the difference between a replica cue and an original, if not by the sharpness of the badge then certainly by the age'ing and wear/condition of the cue in general.

2)A good replica will cost in the region of £300 minimum to make. 80% of Antique cues are worth no more than £150 maximum. I would say that a good Tony Ions Burwat Champion Replica cue would be worth more than an Original 2nd Edition Burwat Champion. Even a 1st edition would only be of similar value.

I agree with your point on replica cues.

BUT, if a replica is sold without informing the buyer clearly that it one (on ebay or where ever), I guess it is selling fake goods.

      Hi Jason,

I think in some ways it's perhaps pointless asking a seller that is listing a 'fake' whether it is genuine or not anyway. I'd have thought if they are willing to mislead any potential buyer in the first place, they're unlikely to offer an honest reply to the question.

The bottom line is that a buyer should maybe not bid or buy unless they have the adequate knowledge to see whether it looks like the real article or not.

Unless they don't mind if it isn't genuine.
