  • How to improve my game?

    Hi,

I'm 15 and I play Snooker every Sunday from 12pm till 6pm with my Cousin. We are quite good but not nearly as good as we want to be. Anyway I want to improve my game and I want to know the best way how. I struggle to go on big breaks as I don't plan the color I'm going onto next as I'm not good enough with spinning. Also I'm quite good at pocketing balls but again I want to improve by a lot.

So I would appreciate it if you could give me tips on the best way to learn, maybe a Computer game or program, or even tips for real life play. What ever you feel best.

I would really appreciate your help.

    Thank you for your time,
    Stevj016.

Most snooker clubs have Saturday or Sunday morning junior sessions where you can play in competitions against other lads of your age. They usually provide coaching as well.

At our club, Chandler's Ford, near Southampton, we have junior comps from 9am until 6pm every Saturday.

Simple. Go train alone a few hours a week. Ask the local club for some exercises you could do. I'm sure they'd help you out. Only by going to train alone, you will really start to notice that you are taking yourself to the next level.

I train alone about 6-8hours a week and 2-4 hours playing with my dad. Training pays off..

        Hi Stevj016,

There are a few websites with snooker coaching material including our own site. MaXimumbreak.com has a one2one coaching support system for members - we've answered nearly 1,000 questions from our members over the last 4 years so we've got a nice database of coaching material. Aside from this, there are hundreds of articles. The site is currently being developed to make the coaching material easier to find. Here are a few more coaching sites:

http://www.fcsnooker.co.uk/coaching_...n/coaching.htm - Frank Callan: world renowned coach

www.wbsasnookercoaching.co.uk/ - links to lots of Welsh snooker coaches.

        http://www.terrygriffithsmatchroom.co.uk/service.htm - Terry Griffiths who I'm sure you'll know!

http://www.worldsnooker.com/coaching.htm - there's a comprehensive list of UK and some international coaches here.

www.gravitycue.com - Neil Johnson, excellent coach from Liverpool. Owns a snooker academy, which I believe is one of the best venues in the UK.

www.alantriggsnooker.com/ - excellent coach who coached Paul Hunter. Now coaching in Eatern Europe I believe.

        www.snookercoachinguk.co.uk/ - Stephen Rowlings

        http://anthonywonnacott.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/ - Anthony Wonnacott

I'd suggest you having a few sessions with a coach. Let me know where you live and I'll be able to point you in the right direction if you can't find anyone in the links above.

I was in the same boat a years ago. I would call myself a really good potter back then (still am) but I lacked position. For instance, I would just look at the ball I was left with (so to speak), the easiest one to to aim for. But when I became serious about snooker, (not just something to do on the weekends) I started looking at the table, the options.
There is a pc game called World Snooker Championship 2004, which is the best investment ive made. I dont think the other newer games are any good, and besides this game now costs only about a tenner. It taught me to appreciate space within the reds.

The only problem I have is with my local club. They wont let juniors stay beyond 12pm, but when Im 18 ill be able to stay for as long as I want. Im aiming for 4 days a week, 2hrs each day.

          Practice! :d

          hope this helps.

I agree with everything below. Get some proper coaching and try to get your cue in your hand for at least an hour every day.

The best tip I would say is to keep your head still untill the object ball is in the pocket (hopefully )
