can someone explain to me what reverse side is?

becuase me and my dad are arguing over it....

i think that it is when you screw back off a cushion with sidespin and the white will check.

    Reverse side is as follows:,

If we had a straight black off its spot into the black pocket and the white six inches away. The reverse side shot would be to pot the black and screw back of the cushion that they are playing above, which would be the side cushion in this situation.

Then, is you played it so that the white would screw off the cushion and go towards the blue spot, instead of playing with right hand side which would look obvious in this situation as you are going up table to the right, you would play with screw and left hand side, as the white reverses as you screw.

Imagine it, you play with left hand side, so the cue ball is moving clockwise, then it screws off the red and still it is travelling clockwise from the eyes of the player and that you be the direction to push it up table, it would be the same as playing with left hand side from the black spot, and the white will go up table.

In this situation, it you wanted to screw off the cushion to go back to the black spot area, you play with the opposite, in this sitaution, which is right side, for going to the black spot area.

It only works if you are screwing off a cushion, the side in reverse side obviously means that you need to use side.

I hope this information is useful, and that you win the arguement. It is correct information too!!!

The black off the spot is the example that I used as it is easiest to discribe and understand.

Reverse side is a term used for the spin applied to the white ball when a shot is played where screw (or backspin) is also applied to the white ball.

It is used to 'widen' the angle that the cueball travels, after making contact with a cushion.

      For example: -

If you were playing a dead straight brown off its spot, into the yellow pocket, with reverse side, then when the cueball strikes the cushion after the shot is played due to the screw (or backspin) applied, it will not rebound off the cushion at the usual angle (towards the blue spot). Instead, it will 'widen' this angle, making the cueball travel more towards the pink spot.

This 'reverse side' generally causes acceleration, as well as widening the angle of the cueball, so in some respects could be referred to as reverse running side, whereas playing the same shot with the opposite side would lead to a slowing (or checking) of the cueball.

      Good luck with your Dad.
