  • Highest losing break in a frame?

What is the highest break a player has made in a frame & lost?

I've seen a player lose with a 60 odd break, but no higher - 67 i think, Higgins in the UK semi against Ebdon.

At the Crucible it's 73, White against Davis in 1983(?) and Stevens against Ebdon in 2002. It was the 16th frame of the semi-final in both cases.

In the Worlds in the early 30s, Joe Davis made a 76 against Willie Smith and went on to win the frame only on a re-spotted black.

I heard a rumour Neal Foulds had a 80 break and lost a frame - any ideas?

Great stats BTW - i remember that Stevens break now! Another classic Ebdon match.

I seen Willie Thorne give a standard player 100 up make a ton and and loose by 20 that was about 14 years ago in Dublin.

Yeah, but that was a fixed score.

From memory: Stevens lost the 2005 Irish Masters final having made a 68 break. O'Sullivan won 10-8 with a 69.

              9-6, if memory serves.

              Which it might not do.

I think Foulds mentioned this in one of his commentaries. I recall a John Higgins-Ian McCulloch match where Higgins broke down on 72 in a maximum attempt and McCulloch stole it with a 73 break.

I very recently heard this, so I think it was mentioned on the Snooker Mastermind thing they did during the Worlds. I think 80 was the losing break, and 84 the winning one.

I can check my video of it later.

Wenbos first frame against Doherty could have ended that way as well. When Wenbo looked at the scoreboard 76 points up, there was still 99 points left, which meant that Doherty in theory could have lost with a break of 87 points.
