  • Have you ever got frustrated by the game?

Have you ever got frustrated so much after losing match after match; repeat errors again and again; and so on?

Have you ever said to yourself "I am going to give up" but start playing again?

I am saying these exact things to myself at the moment.

    say to yourself...

"practising the same errors wont make me improve"

concentrate on doing things correctly at all times.

remember when you play that you will have good days and bad days. eradicating the bad days, or lowering the amount of them, is everyones goal

Just to let you know I do the same thing so we are all human. Some days i cant miss and i love the game and then some days i cant pot a ball and i come home and tell my wife i have had enough - after a few hours of calming down i wanna play again. I love it too much!

i always find that practising and working through my technique gives me the opportunity to find out whats wrong. Like semih said though you must not practice whats wrong. You always see players in clubs who practice for 3-4 hours a day and never get better. Its because they are getting better and better at playing with a bad technique and just making it more of a habit!

Even when things are going bad try and remember the one or two good shots that you do and enjoy the game. Anyway, lets hope we both dont give up and continue to improve!

I know what you mean, but what helps me is to go home and have a nice warm bath or shower and think about my match, hopefully, you won't regret doing something which is not very sportsman like, some players do something like swear etc and then regret it, After you have had time just to get away from the situation then you can think about the match, and know where you went wrong.

Another good point to remember and is one of the best pieces of advice (if you can call it advice is that when you played and you knew that your stance was uncomfortable for example and you set up some shots when practicing and you really concentrated on getting into a comfortable stance when you got down into position, when you do that, you can take awareness off the rest of your technique and miss beacuse of the loss of awareness and miss the pot and not know why. You may have good muscle memory with good technique and get down correctly, but if you have lost the awareness on a part of your technique, then the finer points of it may not be perfect. But then you need to perfect one part of technique at a time, to learn properly. If you already have learnt technique, then it is the same for all the rest of your learning, the old saying goes "Go one step at a time" but we really should and some people don't actually think about it and they do too many things at the same time. Still that doesn't mean we should try to learn very slowly but then not everything at the same time! Remember "Awareness Cures!"

I have thought annoyed (more upset) when i've played matches and lost or have been playing badly in practice and sometimes if you play in tournaments and there are a few players that you know well and are friends with and there is a lot of competition with each other then there is pressure to get better than them.

I have never thought about giving up, I have felt upset about my game, but I have never thought, during or after the match, about giving up, never, I just love the game so much and I want to be involved with it all of my life.. I actually dreamt last night that I beat Steve Davis , I must be so obsessed with Snooker , which I am! :snooker:

to give up is a sighn of weakness and something i would never do.....

to improve and to get better stronger and fiercer a competator thats something that shouldn't go through youre mind........

no matter how bad or good you play....always be competative and have the belief in yourself.....

yes you're not alone, i never say to myself "i am going to give up" but i do at times become very dissilusoned with the game! Though because i love the game i continue to play and sometimes everything comes together but only sometimes.

i get frustrated with missing the easiest ball or when playing a very loose positional shot, which happens more often now with me than when i was playing a few years back. to be fair to myself i dont manage to get in the same amount of practise that i use to so this may have some bearing as to why this happens. Also recently when playing certain shots i'm thinking about my cue action and other aspects of my technique in pressure situations.

I always go into every match feeling confident and aware of my own ability and how well i can play but sometimes it just doesn't make any difference because i still at times as i still happen to make silly mistakes. you just need to patient at this game and like menitoned in a previous post you will have your good days and your bad but stick with it!

A lot of problems have got to be in the mind, just this monday i had an hour of billiards practice and couldn't miss, had 2 frames of snooker against a decent player giving him 21 start per frame and won both.
Tuesday i played a good player at billiards and got well beat and got beat against the player i beat easily on Monday at snooker.(didn't know why really frustrated)
Then Wednesday i easily won my billiard game against the good billiard player (anyone still following this lol) and won my snooker
So today is a day of rest lol
But the point i am making is i went to play on the wednesday with a determined
attitude that i was not going to play like i did the day before, i went into the game fully focused and with the right attitude even though there was nothing at stake, i suppose the hard bit is trying to keep focused so it becomes a habit
                (easier said than done)
