    Hi Friends,
do you have specific exercises to improve straight cueing?
Apart from goin up and down the spots,do you have other tests?

    cheers and happy potting,

Steve Davis coaching guides recommend placing a full length mirror on a chair or something in line with your shot. (easier if you have a table at home - might not be so easy in a club )

Sounds like a good idea though, as you'd be able to check if everything looks aligned - paying special attention to the back arm - as this needs to be aligned too unless you are Joe Swail..

to make the going over the spots exercise slightly harder try adding 2 reds on the blue spot and 2 on the pink spot areas with about a 2 ball gap between. can make it harder the smaller the gap between the balls.

Imagine there's a white on the brown spot,
and cue back 'n' forth over the baulk line..

You're cueing straight if your cue's shadow
keeps running over the baulk line.

I use this technique to get juniors
        cueing smoother aswell.

P.S. don't use the up and down technique -
        it's not very accurate.

Few days ago i got myself a mirror thinking its a great idea of mine and found out it works really good for me. Now I look here and find out that it's Steve Davis' idea. DAMN you Steve!

All im concerned with is that i stike the cueball correctly in the middle and that my eyes are back on the spot of the object ball where the cue ball is supposed to hit. If your cue has strayed off slightly you can, of course, stand up and begin the preparation for the shot again. thats what i do, it takes a bit time and you have to be patient but it works and you play better in the long run son!

              Take a look here: http://prosnooker.be/zuivercueen.htm.

Of course, the mirror is very useful too, unless it starts to shoot back at you
Ten reds and not a colour...

I have noticed that when I am not cueing straight, it is because of my grip not opening up on my back swing, or that I am trying to follow through too much without having a porper back swing (usually back swing is too short).
So, I usually start with some closer shots, and try to pot them with various length of back swing to get my timing down.
After that, i will just pot the blue in the corner ten to each pocket, with center ball, then again with top, and then with bottom.
One way to know you are cueing and sighting well, is to try follow the cue ball in.

                    Hi,

On www.thesnookergym.com, go to DVD series, and there is Snooker clips, one with information on a cueing exercise for straight cueing.

                    Hope it helps! :snooker:
