  • How Do The Pro Snooker Players Pratice

HI would like to know how the Pro Snooker Players Practice maybe someone here would know. I practice doing the line up which is a good practice. which you put the 15 reds in a line and you try to pot a red ball and then a colour and when all the reds are potted you try to pot the colours in their order yellow green brown blue pink and the black ball

every player has their own practice routine, but I have heard that Ding Junhui does the following,
    1. 30 mins on cue action - brown spot to black spot
    2. straigh long blue from the baulk line both sides. using stun shots/screw/top spin x 2 sets for all balls.
    3. 1 side line up 147 - pot all the blacks and keep the cue ball on one side.
    4. practice match with other players. if no one available. he breaks off himself and finish up in a visit.

    Hope it helps.

        Hi Montrealer & SebastianZ,

Excellent routines! However, I would like to elaborate more on the first drill on cue action.

I read about from an old book that the black has to be on its spot. The cue ball is on the brown and perform a double kiss. Don't rise up immediately and watch the deflection of the balls. A perfect shot will have the black and the cue balls stay in line after the double kiss. Without the black, the cushion and the nap of the table can still off set some of your unintentional spin to make the cue ball comes back straight to the brown spot.

        Thanks

You can make it more difficult by putting a ball on the centre spot.

Terry Griffiths played this shot perfectly in one of my videos.

It is worth noting that if there is a ditch in the brown spot for careless spotting, place the cue ball just in front of it.

This is real tough. Maybe to become a Pro one needs to do all this!

There are some drills in Fergal O'Brien's web site. Some of the positioning drills are very tough.
