  • A lil help please?

    Hello everyone,

Just a bit of a cueing question for all you snooker masterminds out there.. I've been working on my cueing action lately, I have some vids and literature on the subject and have been experimenting (read struggling). If I get down as if playing a shot with NO balls on the table, and without preference as to direction of shot in relation to initial body position I sink down and find myself cueing straight and my stance good - result I feel confident I know what and how I need to be standing and cueing. Problem - when it comes to addressing a cue ball to play a shot WITH balls involved I can't strike that same stance and action... it's really very frustrating, I know I can do it, just not how. Does this make me a moron or average I wonder?? Any suggestions?

    Cheers, Steve.

    Hi Steve.

I would try this exercise, as it is obviously all in your mind.

Set up a straight blue or pink. Make sure it is dead straight. Then line up your shot with the sole intention of cueing straight with your cue ending pointed directly at the centre of the pocket. Ignore the balls, it doesn't matter if you pot them or not. They are just getting in the way of your straight cue action that is aimed at the centre of the pocket.
Try playing a few of these shots to develop the feel for straight cueing. Remember, the balls are irrelevant, you are not trying to pot them. You are just practicing your dead straight action.

Thanks for the advice checkside, I'll give that a go for a while and see what comes of it. I think I do have a somewhat negative picture of my cue action sort of ingrained... it anything goes wrong I kinda just leap to it being my action, even if it's plain it isn't... need to sort my head out obviously

      Thanks again, steve.
