  • Hi from Northern Ireland

    Hey guys!

I'm a 26 y/o looking to get back into the game. I've played less than ten times in the last nine years or so, but I used to love the game as a teenager. My highest break was 49, and I wasn't too shabby a player when I was putting in a few hours/week back then.

Now I'm married, have a kid, but no hobby and going to get back into something I used to enjoy.

So, reading the forums, I decided to buy a cue from Paul Morris (I have no idea where my old one is). Just waiting on it arriving now.

Anyway, I just thought I'd introduce myself. The forum has been helpful, so thanks for that.

P.S. Anyone here from the Lisburn area, Northern Ireland? I used to play up in Ballymoney, but I live in Lisburn now and a bit nervous about walking into a new club! Is that weird?

Welcome tomah. If you have any coaching questions you can ask away on here and you're sure to get multiple replies and a lot to work on.

Also, I don't think it's too weird to be a little nervous walking into a new club as you're always a little apprehensive about what to expect.

I wish I was 26 again like you and Rocket but I'd prefer to be retired as I am now and I would really work on my game and maybe have a chance to improve more than I am now

      Cheers,
      Terry

          Roy,
          Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, well I've already been saved from buying a Riley or BCE cue because of this forum!!

          Terry,
Thanks for the welcome! I've already come across some of your advice on cueing action. As I get back into the game and discover problem areas and inconsistencies, I'll no doubt look for guidance.

I googled the two nearest clubs to where I am and went for a drive to find them tonight. One is an amusement place, which I'll not be going into. The other was up an alley, and it was too dark and too late to go and check it out. There's another one slightly further away and I think I'll check it out tomorrow. Failing that, I'll just have to drive into Belfast. I don't like amusement places with snooker tables. I prefer dedicated snooker halls, as I'm sure you understand.

It's nice to play the game when you're young. A lot of young talent never goes anywhere though, due to the money barrier. Snooker isn't really expensive as a working adult, but a kid starting the game will need financial backing from someone in order to go anywhere, unlike football and rugby.
