  • Cant get the tip flat to the cue!!

Well ive been trying for days to get the tip flat to the cue. It always stands up around the edges from the cue(always a gap) and only seems to stick on near the middle of the cue, which is making it come off everytime i play. The trouble is, sanding makes it worse. I dont think its the cue as when i put the tip on the file im using its still stuck up around the edges a little. When i sand it, i thought it would make it flat, but it just makes it just as bad. Anyone got any ideas what could be up and how i could get it totally flat to the cue around the edges so it never comes off again

get the ferrule repaired / replaced, sounds like you have damaged it with trying to put tips on....

also use super glue gel to position the tip clamp it and ideally still leave it overnight to cure....

Im using super glue to glue the tip but this aint the problem is it, its the tip that aint going on totally flat round the sides. And, ive also done everything on that link, sanded the tip down and the ferrule. I think its the tip as when i put it on somwhere else its still lifted around the sides, but i dont understand why because im sanding it down evenly!

Have you tried laying a piece of sandpaper flat on a table... Hold the tip with forefinger and thumb, and sand the bottom of the tiop in circular motions until its flat.

And you should ideally use super glue gel not the liquiid stuff because the liquid can be absorbed into the tip.

yes mate, thats how im sanding it down. Ive also got some tip cement that i bought, some propper stuff but i find it dosent dry too good and aint very good for holding the tip on. Ive ran out of ideas on what to do. Im sure it aint the ferrule, but i just dont understand why the tip wont sand totally flat, its obviously sanding at the edges more as thats where theres a gap when its on the cue

Lots of people hate tip cement, I've never had a problem but you do need to leave it on overnight, whereas super glue gel you can do it instantly.

Keep sanding until your happy its totally flat, i hold mine against the window or a mirror (or any flat surface) until there is no sign of any gaps

right, ill give the cement a go then, although theres no point me putting it on if the tip aint fitting flush onto the cue is it? Its so annoying

                    Well summats not even fella...

Sounds to me like you have sanded the edges of the ferrule and the centre is pertruding (spelling) in the centre. or you unevenly sanded ferrule on the sides.

When you sand tip before application, ,ake sure you only just tickle it really to loosen the glaze a bit that's all very lightly or it will be uneven and almost impossible to get flat again.

Put some sandpaper on a block so it's flat to sand top of ferrule area. trouble is doing it with your fingers can cause grooving/uneven areas as your fingers aint flat. be gentle...

Or as already said get a new ferrule fitted, all depends how bad you have bodged it....

No there isnt, won;t make any difference in the long run cement or super glue, super glue will be a lot quicker. I do use super glue these days. Window idea is a good one!

Because tip cement needs several hours to dry, (as opposed to gel superglue) i hope your using a tip clamp ? otherwise you need to keep pressure on with your fingers for an awfully long time ! i clamp mine then go to bed

right, ive now decided that its a ferrule problem. How much are you talking for a new one to be fitted, and how long do you rekon it would take them to fit it? For future reference when i go to re-tip my new cue, how will i make sure i dont damage the ferrule with the stanley knife when scraping the glue off? Also, what about if i need to sand it a little to get some glue off? Wont i just make it uneven again?
