  • What tip do YOU use and how do you rate it?

Yeah pretty much what the title says

I use a 9.5mm blue diamond tip and I quote like it although have never had anything different apart from whatever tip john Paris put on my cue when I bought it

I quite like the soft tips so this blue diamond works ok for me but worst thing is it loses shape every now and then!

What do you use an what do you think of it?
what a frustrating, yet addictive game this is....

Luke , use the search icon at the top of the page .

There are so many tips to choose from now . MW Supertips , pro granite , talisman and kamui to name just a few . It is really down to personal preference . But if you use the search tool you will get a very good idea of the difference in each tip from most of the members on this forum . I'm about to try the pro granite as soon as my last match of the season ,next week ,is over .

    Good luck with your search
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

but yeah if I were to change I may try the kamui just because I been hearing a lot about them but this thread isn't me asking for advice on tips haha just what tip are you using and what is your personal opinion on it! :-)

Luke you will have similar mixed reactions as you would if you asked the same about cue preference .

Some will like talisman - some wont
some will like kamui - some wont
some will like elks - some wont
some will like pgs - Some wont

and so on . Before the new tips came put you were torn between B D or Elks , now there is so much choice . I ve mostly used elks , and the odd bd . but ive just bought pgs , mw supertips , and a kamui , i aint tried them yet as i,m still waiting for my new cue/s to arrive .

It's great that you guys can have so many kinds of tips to try out.
In my place, we only get BD, Elk, Omin and talisman. Other than that, would be very expensive.
I personally like Omin red tip. It's hard(I like hard tips) and durable than others that I had tried. I have been using it since i got my first personally cue.
It hit the ball well and gives a good feel.

            Cheers.

Luke , i tried Talisman .1st one was great . 2nd was not very good . Just got a new cue made by Trevor White and spoke to him last week and he puts elks on his cues and he explained how to find a good one . Must admit the one he put on is very good and lasted longer than normal . As i said , i am going to try a Stuart Green Pro Granite , then i will try a Mike Wooldridge Supertip .

I am from an era when all we had to chose from was the good old Blue Diamond or Elkmaster. I am now playing with a Talisman Soft and I find it to be very reliable. The ones I have used have been responsive, kept their shape and held chalk really well.
I may try other makes in the future but to be fair I think if it aint broken don't fix it!!

Same. I soak an ElkMaster overnight, and squeeze it in a vice/pliers in the AM and leave to dry out. I've found this helps make the leather more compact ( though I could be wrong ).

I'm curious to try out Kamui tips in future... having heard so much about them. But like johnnymac said... "if it ain't broke........"

Tried elk, bd, omin, mw, talisman, royal oak, mastercue, hercules, talisman wb, le pro, blue velvet, moori, ..,. And a few others. List is endless, now using kamui black med 11mm. Its all about what suits your taste and style of play. I always loved using elks, but as everyone knows they are not very consistent, also need reshaping frequently. Mw tips are great, used them for a while too, but like any pressed tip you do need to reshape regularly, also a miss cue can take out a chunk of the tip, not saying it cant happen to a laminated tip but not happened to me yet, also the fact that pressed tips dont last as long as laminated tips. The kamui for me feels like a v good elk , just a bit harder. I dont think i will be using any other tip , but i cant say for sure, because i think like me there are others too who are in search for that tip that just satissfies their their cravings. So at the moment its kamui for me....best thing i ever did was try them . We can discuss tips till eternity , but if anyone wants to know the best tip the answer is try as many as you can. Actually i am waiting for the new cowhide talisman, but at this moment in time its hats off to kamui , what a great tip, definatly worth a shot . What tip works for 1 player might not work for another, overall kamui is no1 a great investment .

So what you're saying is you're a tip slut.
And Kamui is your current "love".

                      Is she expensive?

It depends how you see it.
The 13 layers one can be slice into 2 equal pcs for separate usage. So it will be like 5pound a pcs. But if you were to buy the 6 layer kamui, it will be like 7pound. Then both are of slightly different density.

Moori II is of the same pricing as a Kamui tip, as both are from Japan.
