    B&Q
Sandpaper or file (go mad get both) a lot less than £18. I don't rate tip shapers anyway.

      better than a sander

Place a piece of fine/ medium grade sandpaper on a hard floor surface. turn the cue upside down, and gently rotate the cue to clean any debris off the end of the cue. This will level the top of the cue and ferrule surface

Remember, before doing this to clean as much of the old tip off with a sharp knife first.

It does exactly the same thing as ordinary sandpaper does but with less control i would imagine . If your careful with a knife you can remove all the glue and bits of old tip , and just need to give the top a few rubs for a good key .

In my humble opinion, using a blade or a knife is a much better way to make sure the top of the ferrule is flat. The top sander tends to cut too much with too much movement. You may have a curved surface on the top.
I use a lathe so I can make sure the top is flat and perpendicular, but I used to use just a blade and all my tips stayed on.

Hotpot You would need to be careful you don't mix this up for other household rolls!! Putting some in the bathroom would be quite unpleasant!
