  • Pressed tips, what's available on the market?

recently, i've gone back to pressed tips because i missed the frequent tip changing

i'm trying to figure out what's available on the market. i ran a search and pretty much came across these names over and over again:

    1. blue diamonds
    2. elks
    3. MW super
    4. pro granite
    5. buffalo diamond plus

are there more that i'm not aware of?

also, anyone tried using the triangle and le pro tips (for US pool)? i ran a search and came across nothing.

    thanks.

i meant just pressed tips, not layered/laminated.

I have given MW laminated a try though.

I just miss the frequent looking after my cue by retipping and so on. Thats why I'm going back to pressed tips.

Master Cue tips - good harder tip, well recommended.

Oh, I've tried a Le Pro tip - hated it!! I found it way too hard for UK pool or snooker, and really hard to chalk. It didn't seem to have any porosity at all.

I've seen triangle tips, but I didn't buy any as they felt too hard for my likes. They had no give in them at all, like a Le Pro.

          Hope this helps!

P.S. If I were to recommend a tip it'd be the Buffalo Diamond +. I love that tip!

                    thanks keith

the master cue tips, are the manufacturers from master cue thailand by any chance?

under your recommendation from another thread, i bought the buffalo diamond last night. looking forward to trying it out soon.

i've been thinking outside the box lately.
the general perception is this for most people lately seems to be this
layered tips holds shape, less chalk retention, more prone to miscue
pressed tips are inconsistent in production process, tend to hold more chalk, easy to mushroom and are too soft/spongy

i personally much prefer pressed tips over layered tips, partly because it is cheaper but mostly because i enjoy looking after my cue

i realized that there arent a lot of snooker pressed tips available on the market. so i decided check out the softer 9ball pressed tips, hoping that it could suit my game or the general public.

look through search in az billiards, and the general perception is that le pro and triangle are the favored ones. le pro 's criticisms are pretty much the same as the present blue diamonds, and triangle's are much much more positive.

i'm looking forward to hear other inputs from other members.

Yup Mastercue hard tips are good, as I have recommended in the 'tip problem' thread too.

I'm moving in the opposite direction as you jonny, just ripped off my Mastercue tip after losing in the 2nd round of today's in-house tournament, and put on a Kamui black laminated tip to have a try (sorry out of topic, but just to share).

My friend who supplied me with it told me that there is no need to bed in this tip, so I just put it on without inverting the cue and dropping it on the floor tip first as I normally do with the Mastercue tip. And boy it is true! After 2 shots I can already play with it like I've played with it for ages. Kamui tips really got teeth in them you know, bites the cue ball so well. But it's only the 1st day trying it, so will see how it goes. It is really expensive! So hope it can last long.

for pressed tips, besides MW super tips, the other most positively remarked one is the buffalo.

i too am looking forward to it.

have you by any chance given the pro granite a go?

No Crispian, I think that the tips on the cues I sent are just regular Elks, however, the spares I sent are Diamond Pluses. Try one anyway, as everyone I've recommended them too loves them!!

I've tried a Pro Granite, and it's too hard for me, however, I've had lots of very positive feedback from snooker and UK 8ball players who love it. Very consistent quality too! :snooker:
