  • Hi all from Nova Scotia, Canada

Hi folks. First, a little history. I started playing as a teen and continued until I was about 30. After that, I never played regularly. Tables started disappearing around the maritimes and at some point I found myself playing no more than a couple of times a year. Right now I live in a small town in the southern part of province and there's nothing around here. At the same time, television coverage dropped off to nothing and I stopped following professional play altogether many years ago.

One of the reasons I more or less gave up on snooker quite some time ago is I became discouraged at my lack of improvement despite years of play. When I first decided to take the game seriously, I bought Thorburn's book and from it definitely obtained a good understanding of fundamentals of alignment, stance, stroke, bridge, etc. But for some reason having to do with the way I sight the ball, I miss a lot of easy balls despite having been complimented many times on my form by good players. It doesn't help that I have a bad tendancy to choke. When well practiced and playing a lot I got to the point where I could normally make no more than about 40. That was after 15 years of play.

Lately, I learned how to see televised snooker events online and it renewed my passion for the game. I may soon be moving back to Halifax and I am pretty sure a snooker game can still be found there. I've only just broken the surface of the content on this forum but it already looks like I might find a lot of helpful info here.
