  • New Ferrel needed???????

I retipped my cue last night with a 9mil hard talisman that I won pretty cheaply on ebay, however upon cose inspection I notice a gap of about a mil between the end of the cue and the tip itself, I didn't use a clamp or anything like that (Only just discovered such things exisst!) so I'm wondering if it's just a normal gap caused by the layer of glue of if the ferrel is in some way dameged as it does look a little like it's been marked in past retippings....

    Any ideas?

p.s. we've had almost a foot of snow here today so not had chance to go and practice with it and see how it plays or indeed stays on!

The gap may be the glue but it's more likely to be that either the tip or end of the cue wasn't completely flat.

correct - also exists the possibility the tip was not totally level - i don't recommend sizes in talisman other than 11mm

Both were filed flat, though on closer inspection it looks the the ferrule(?) has previously been filed at a bad angle which might explain why I can see a gap??

The top of the ferrule must not only be flat, but also LEVEL. The bottom of the tip must also be flat and preferably level although there's a little room for error on the bottom of the tip.

Clamping a tip is not necessary if you use something other than super glue and tap the tip gently with a hammer once the glue is partially set. I use the 20-minute epoxy and tap the tip with a hammer after about 10 minutes. I have never had a tip loosen using this method.

It's not necessary to replace your ferrule as long as it still has some thickness in the walls and is not too short. Just ensure the top of it is flat and level

How do you ensure that both of are level? Does the cue need clamping and bracing??? I can't for the life of me get the ferrule level and feel I'm just making it worse......

Need to find a pro locally me thinks....
