  • End of Frame, Game or Match rule interpretation

In a doubles game my partner and I were ahead by 7 points. Partner scratched on the black. I stated the black is spotted and we flip for break. Opposition (naturally) claimed we lost.

I interpret rule 4 that if we had been tied at that point we would have lost.

If there is a difference of more than seven points after the pink has been potted then the game is over.

When only the black remains then the first pot or foul on the black ends the game, the winner being whoever is ahead after the points from potting the black, or fouling the black are added to the scores.

ONLY THEN, if the scores are level the black is respotted and players/sides toss for choice of whether to play first (or whether to put their opponent in first.

In your situation, if you were ahead by seven points then the scores were level after your partner fouled, so it should have been a respot.

I am, of course, assuming that aggregate scores don't apply.

        Souwester,

Thanks for confirming my interpretation of the rule. Should make for an interesting discussion on Monday as those guys will no doubt make it into a verbal joust.
