  • Snookers on black?

Hi, I was playing snooker the other day (at a pretty basic level), my opponent needed snookers with only the black left on the table. I was about to rack for the next game where he said he wanted to play for snookers? Is this aloud? Or is there a rule which says I can end the game at that point? I thought it was quite unsportsmanlike and we played on for another couple of minutes, till I potted the black.... Any rule stopping this?
    Thanks Dan,

The only way he's going to be able to score any points is by you missing the black or going in off and that's the end of the frame anyway, so it was a pontless exercise.......
    One day I'll make a century, I've knocked in a 51!

Not a very good answer DWOT lol.....if you are more than 7 points in the lead with only the black left on the table, then that is end of game as he cannot win. If you were allowed to carry on in the hope of you mis cueing or something the frame would never ever end !!!

So he is not allowed to insist on playing for fouls then?
        Thanks mate

          1. Frame
A frame of snooker comprises the period of the play from the first stroke, with all the balls set as described in Section 3 Rule 2, until the frame is completed by:
          (a) concession by any player during his turn,
          (b) claim by the striker when only the Black remains and there is more than seven points difference between the scores in his favour,
          (c) the final pot or foul when only the Black remains, or
          (d) being awarded by the referee under Section 3 Rule 14(c) or Section 4 Rule 2

              Plus:

There is no such thing as a Snooker with only the black left anyway. Read definition of "snooker", precisely, for further information...

                    Section 3 rule 4:

                    4. End of Frame, Game or Match
                    (a) When only the Black is left, the first score or foul ends the frameexcepting only if the following conditions both apply:
                    (i) the scores are then equal, and
(ii) aggregate scores are not relevant.

Is it not a snooker if left angled by the jaw of a pocket??..

                        (no, there isn't.)

Shall I cite my last post here? In IT, we'd say: "RTFM", which stands for "Read the fu.... Manual!"

Why do 80% of all snooker players not even know what a snooker really IS?

i could read the manual, or i could write a sentence on here whilst i'm sat watching snooker which took me 10 seconds to write and enjoy a bit of a discussion. last time i checked this was a snooker forum. is that 80% accurate?. i cant imagine anyone being bored enough to survey snooker players about there understanding of being snookered. it may not 'technically' be a snooker, but if i'm angled and i cant directly hit the object ball, i'm as good as damn it as far as i'm concerned!..

                            You're easy to upset... :P

(The bad thing is: Playing players like these, you always get in trouble, arguing about rules that should be clear anyway...)
