  • Extended rest use

I don't play the game very often, but I'm wondering if anyone else uses the extended rest as I do. It's something I tried when using the 'fishing tackle' on one ocassion and was really surprised at how comfortable and natural it felt. It struck me that all the rest is, is an extension of your own rest arm, so I wondered why the shot has to played any differently than it would if I could reach the cueball in the normal way. It's a bit difficult to explain in words, but I place the rest down in the conventional manner, but hold the cue in the same way I would if taking a normal shot, i.e. under my chin. From this point on I've never understood why the cue, when using the extended rest - or the normal rest for that matter - is held in front of the face, as is the way we all recognise.
