  • Have you ever used a 7mm tip cue for snooker

Is it okay to do so, and will it break the ferrule?

Can't see it being good for it thats for certain, and shot accuracy would need to be bang on.....will only end in tears imo

As mentioned, as 7mm tip would not be good for shot accuracy, etc. on a snooker table.
I have only come across a 7mm tip, on a Parris cue, and I tried it on a pool table (World Rules) and it was very difficult.
I play pool with a 8.2mm tip and I used to use that for snooker as well and did not do too badly with it, but recently got a 9.5mm cue and my snooker has improved in all respects. I still use the 8.2mm for pool.
The ferrule itself will not break but the shaft just below it probably will.
      Up the TSF! :snooker:

my friend plays snooker and pool with the same cue, he uses an old burwat champion and his ferrule is 7mm and he makes regular 50 breaks but hes played with the same cue for years and tends to break down far too often by over using the white and losing position, it can be done but its not recommended

I have mentioned on an erlier thread that when Tony Drago was doing an exibision in my local club in the late 80s early 90s the cue he was usin at the time had a 7mm tip and ferrule and look what he could do with the balls..
Not played for 3 years and itching for a game....11-3-2017.

lol my dad used to use a 7mm tip with snooker, he used to be a fairly decent player, not too great now lol and uses a 9.75mm tip instead now...i heard once upon a time jimmy white used to use a 7.5mm tip? dont know how true that is!
what a frustrating, yet addictive game this is....

To me 7mm seems strange even for UK pool which uses a much smaller, lighter cue ball. You need to have a good cue action to control it, but if you have a good action you shouldn't need a smaller tip to get enough response.

For snooker I guess it might be good as a form of training but it's hard to imagine a pro using 7mm in a professional tournament.

Thats nothing Chris Melling the former 8 ball world champion played on the Main tour with his pool cue and I believe his is or was 6.5mm! Also unbelieveably he competed in the 9 ball world championships about 8 or 9 years ago with this cue and also used it to break off with!

Don't know about 9ball bit but i know Chris and yes is snooker tip was very tiny indeed takes some cueing to make the breaks like he did too.

Fair enough, I guess that changed over the years. In more recent vids I've seen of Melling he seemed to be using a maple cue with around 8mm tip and have also seen him on american style table with something like 12mm.
