Anyone know if there's an old photo of Stephens actual cue? I've attached a Powerglide brochure which shows a "conny" but don't know if this is similar to Stephen's or not. I've seen various Conny's.

Hi bigmeek, this brochure is about 10 or more years old when the conny was almost at the end of its run being made, also this version did not have the Rex Williams signature (nor did the Purist beside it) as i think the company had changed to new ownership at this point. Rex and his brother Ken had some part of ownership and Ken also made cues. The one pictured here is only 2piece and white ash rather than the maple 1piece version Stephen used. I posted my mid 80s brochure up here a while back and the conny was only in white ash that time too. Stephens i think was made possibly late 70s judging by the red metal badge rather than the later dark wood badge in the 80s. The basic conny design has been the same over the years with the multi-spliced rosewood/maple/ebony pattern although most ive seen in 80s & 90s were all white ash, the maple may have been a mid 70s to early 80s version.

Thanks Nugget. You might have answered one of my questions. Are you saying that Stephen's cue was the Red Badge type? I've seen a couple of these for sale. Stephen bought his cue circa 1983 so I guess it could have been a late 70's model.

Stephens cue was a red badge type and the badge fell of or Stephen removed it and carved his first name on his cue were the badge used to be.

Yep i heard that before Warren also later i remember he had a plain silver type/colour metal badge in this place around 85/86. Powerglide gave this badge option on their custom built top of the range model in the mid 80s where you could have an inscription on it, so maybe he had this done? Yes his was the red badge version.

Hi Dave there was a maple 1piece connoisseur same as Stephens on ebay around nov last went for £280 or thereabouts, suppose its not what a cues worth but what youre willing to pay ya kno, although it looked in top condition untampered with. The ones ive ever come across have been either 1piece or 2piece white ash rather than maple, the ash ones seemed to have been from early 80s onwards so i think the maple ones are prob late 70s. There were two 2piece ash connys plus one 1piece ash conny on the bay last week and seems theres no shortage about of them, 1piece maples are harder to come by now id say. In fact two weeks back there was a one piece maple conny with the red badge on ebay although it seemed to have been an earlier version cos it didnt have the usual rosewood/maple/ebony splicing design. It had a much simpler pattern so i think it went for around £80.

Thanks Sooty. I saw this on another post. Pity you can't see the badge or the Rex Williams signature. Really hard to believe the splices are so bad.

Yes this pic is in stephen hendry masterclass book. My auld mans got it. I'll have a look later to see if there are better pics.

Ive got a 1 piece rex Williams powerglide connoisseur in white ash. Got it few months back for £40. Would be willing to part with it for a 1 piece maple version with the rex Williams signature tho.

Just to put everyone's mind at rest regarding Stephens Cue. It was indeed the red badge version but he hated the badge and so put red tape over it very early on. It can be seen in the Pot Black matches he played. After this and in his early Pro days, Laurie Annandale who does work on cue and has engineering skills added an inch to stephens cue and fitted a black lightweight badge to his cue. This was engraved with S.HENDRY.

The cue was bought by Gordon, Stephens father and Stephen chose it from the display cabinet in the club where he played. He chose this cue because it was "The prettiest cue in there" This is what Stephen himself has told me. I collect Connoisseur cues and have just changed to a replica one made by Maximus Cues. Stephen's cue was an early 2nd edition Connoisseur which had the red enamel badge but had the "Rio Rosewood splices as powerglide advertised it. The 1st edition Connoisseur Cue had alternate ebony and Cocobolo splices and had a total butt length of only 15 inches or so. The later Connoisseurs have longer butts than this and Stephens 2nd edition would have had a butt length of around 18 inches.
