  • "True Pot" Aiming System from Nic Barrow

    Hi all,
I just took a look at snooker coach Nic Barrow's website, and saw this device:
    http://www.thesnookergym.com/aiming....g.solution.php

It's called a "True Pot". The video has an excellent description.

Do you think this is any good, it obviously works.
But surely for lone practice it can't really do much for you?

If you can remember where the line was, maybe by looking at a bit of scruffy cloth, then yes, but otherwise?
    Long days and pleasant nights.

Not to take away Nic's thunder, but if a player can run a 40 break then this device wouldn't be of much help as it's basically for showing a newby the various potting angles for any given angled pot.

I have one here which I use very infrequently and then only for a brand-new student who has never played snooker or pool

      Thanks Terry,
I considered one, as I'm having such a hard time getting some angles right at the moment.
Just to compare what I believe to be the shot, and what it actually was.
Thought it might of saved me some time, but they're about £11, so I might give it a miss then.

      Thanks buddy!
      Long days and pleasant nights.

Don't waste your money. This is nothing new. Just place another ball behind the object ball in line with the pocket and aim for the centre of the third ball. I'm surprised you bought one Terry!

Agreed this is only really any good if you are a beginner and trying to get familiar with the angles......

I've also got one of these which Nic gave me awhile back when I had a lesson with him, I was intrigued by it and he brought one down to show me, but I have never used it so if Gerry can't find his I've got one you can have......

I coach alot of beginners and find angle work sometimes hard for someone who doesn't understand. I do use the "2 ball" system and find this works must of the time. Is this a good buy??? Would love to know people's thoughts.

                bigbreak:

Did I say anything about buy? I got one for free as I'm a SnookerGym Examiner and Nic feels we need all the tools, however I told him at the time it makes more sense to get a second cueball, which I use with new students.

wouldnt one of those white balls with the red dots on them, or even a billiard white be better than this idea, you can line the dot up with pocket then wherever you place the other white you have the perfect contact point without having to line up and then get up and down again to remove thingy, although it might encourage just hitting the spot instead of actually learning the pots, but you could do 3 or 4 with white then change it for a red to stop that.

potting is simple geometry its only a bit more complicated with side and pace as the angle changes slightly

and of course if the cut is wafer thin you have to play with pace for it to go far enough if not over the pocket
