  • Cue dropping onto cushion.

    Hi all,
Yep, it's another coaching question, sorry!
    It's nice and simple:

After a lot of shots, I'm tapping the wood/cushion with my cue during the end of delivery (mostly follow through I believe).
I don't think I'm leaning down, and as far as I know the cue is still touching my chin after the shot (but I could be wrong).

I thought perhaps this might be a relatively easy one, if anyone has any suggestions?

    Thanks again all!
    Long days and pleasant nights.

It's a very common problem (which I'm also working on right now) and comes from dropping the elbow at the end of the delivery. Keeping the cue on the chest until the end of the delivery is the proper thing to do to eliminate it.

The main problem is the dropping of the elbow 'creeps up' more and more into your delivery and it will take the cue off-line every time

      I thought that was it!
I read one of your posts in another thread and wanted to be certain. Thanks!

I have noticed also that I get a lot of cue wobble horizontally on medium power shots, as I strike the ball and during follow through.

Anyway I can eliminate this, without burying the cue into my chin? lol

I've seen Terry's reply which is probably the cause, but another way to think about it is simply to try to keep the cue like an arrow as you hit through the cue-ball ... no left/right and no up/down movement of the cue and keep the cue going through for the width of the cueball and another cueball for good luck ...

sounds to me your grip is too tight ... or too loose ... or you are not hitting through the cueball confidently enough ... the moment you hit the cueball is the vital moment, concentrate on that, hit confidently with just enough grip to keep the cue online ...

too much grip causes the cue to decelerate, not enough grip causes it to wobble, and not being confident causes one or both!

my apologies to coaches, I'm not trying to steal your thunder, just trying to suggest a "holistic" approach ...
