  • Snooker Coaching School?

How do I become a registered snooker coach?

I'm not looking for a change of career or anything, I am just curious as to the process and the selection criteria for coaches.

Do you have to be a current/former professional?
    What are the fees involved?

    etc etc etc.

    pottr:

You don't have to be an ex-pro as I was never a pro.

It all depends on which you think is the best training system. For my money I chose Nic Barrow and the IBSF Master Coach training which I still feel gives the best understanding and also a pretty deep depth of knowledge. You could also choose to be a WPBSA coach however that is only less than two days and involves quite a bit with running a coaching business and doesn't concentrate on the actual technique of the sport (my opinion only).

I also took the Terry Griffiths Matchroom Senior Coach training (EBSA certified) but with Wayne away in Hong Kong I'm not certain if Terry is doing these courses on his own.

The other nifty fact is now Nic Barrow's IBSF training is recognized by the WPBSA so you get sort of double the bang for your buck as I'm also now a certified WPBSA/IBSF/SnookerGym Examiner (meaning I can certify Master Coaches world-wide) besides my EBSA certification. As far as costs go, you could get certified with Nic for somewhere around 1,300GBP and an investment of about 5-6 days (more if there are more students). The Terry Griffiths is usually 4 days with cost somewhere around 1,000GBP and is pretty intensive also and then the WPBSA one is 2 days and around 800GBP or so but you get Steve Davis and Terry Griffiths teaching.

For instance, you could come to me and I would do a one-on-one course for Master Coach (WPBSA/IBSF) for 1,275GBP or the equivalent in $CAN in probably 4 days as you seem to know your snooker. You can get the same training with Nic in Milton Keynes but he has a very hectic schedule (I think he's in the Middle East right now) plus it likely wouldn't be one-on-one as he schedules his usually with 3-4 students.

      Food for thought, thanks Terry.
