  • Shanghai Masters - British Eurosport - Final

why oh why is British Eurosport NOT showing the Final live (or even semi-live!)
after all the matches this week, the one match I (and sure many others) have been waiting for so much that when my bady woke up early this morning wanting a bottle I did not mind one bit and came down stairs and was going to watch it at their usual 07:30 time - but NO!

So I am desperately not clicking on the other thread about the frames/breaks (doh! ) and will not be clicking on sportlemon either.

Come on Eurosport, get it together, you have been managing snooker better over that last few tournaments, i.e. not ending transmittion just before the last deciding frame, etc, etc.
    So why this! argh!

oh, there's a problem with eurosport programming and tv coverage of snooker in general - and i thought it might just be my bad luck? my my, what a revelation - although the dinos on here would have you believe otherwise~~~

They certainly can annoy you sometimes. I remember a year when they insisted on showing highlights from the Dakar rally every day at 23pm, no matter what stage the snooker match was at. They even did it for the final when O'Sullivan was a frame away from victory and Selby was coming back at him. It's probably the angriest I've ever been over something snooker related.

You can't always get what you want... :sorrow:

For those who enjoy their non-shot-clock snooker I can recomend ES Player. You've got it all there. And the TV coverage, as I've said before, is very good. Every sensible person knows that Eurosport broadcasts other sports too and can't always show every single snooker match. I understand that can be frustrating at times.

I'm with you 100% on this one DeanH. Absurd management decisions!

With the best will in the world Looki, you can't support a channels decision to not show the final when they've shown a full match and more from every single round of the competition. This is not a one-off for Eurosport, which only leads me to the conclusion that it's a deliberate ploy to try and get people to sign up for their on-line player. Personally, I don't react well to blatant blackmail like that.

When a channel shows 6-7 hours of coverage per day of a tournament then only shows an hour and a half of highlights of the final, then someone high up has persuaded themselves that their ridiculously inept decision is really a good idea. Again, personally, it makes me never want to watch Eurosport ever again.
I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.

I take your point there. It may be their way of doing business, I don't know. But it seems that it would only cause a counter reaction as with you. So not a great way of doing things.

Anyway, I stay with my statement that their coverage is very good in general. Problem with the Chinese tournaments is that when the evening sessions are played it is afternoon in Europe and there are lot of other sports live at the time, for example the latter stages of cycling wc this weekend. I don't know on what basis they prioritise. Although I've understood that snooker is very popular in Europe, the world (or Eurosport) doesn't revolve around it and they can't base their coverage solely on this game. That's why IMO it's good that they provide some way (and very cheap way) to watch matches when it's not on TV.

edit: But don't get me wrong, I think it was very unfortunate that ES didn't show the final and other semi on TV.

Up to Barry to sort, he does the commercials - you wouldn't expect a channel to show a tennis comp for a fortnight and then not show the final, TV coverage has a purpose and sponsors can't be happy with the showcase finals not being televised.

Silly decision in my opinion and a missed opportunity for snooker which is more popular than what was showed instead, isn't it?
