  • 8ft table training routines

I've recently purchased an 8ft table, and was wondering if anyone can suggest a few routines, as everything i'm currently trying feels unnatural?

First of all, check the height of the table. It should be 2ft 9-1/2" to 2ft 10-1/2" to the top of the cushion (NOT the bed). If it isn't then adjust it using blocks of wood under each leg.

Get the spots marked correctly and then do the line-up, but only use 10 balls in a 1-4-4-1 configuration (1 between black and top cushion, 4 between pink & black and so on). Long blues might not be a great challenge but at least try the long blues where you use top spin and pot both balls in the same pocket. Another one is to pot as many blacks as you can without touching the cueball and then try the same with pink and blue. Try running the colours but start with the black ball and then go to yellow and play for the yellow again to try as many consecutive colour clearances as you can get.

I like Terry's last suggestion (will have to try that myself).

I have a 7ft table and tend to try and run as many blues into corner pockets as possible. I also play billiards a lot with full-size aramith carom balls...

Thanks Terry, will give that a try.
Table is right height, it's just the distances that don't feel right, I'm using full size balls and there flying in no problem, but table becomes very cluttered even with 10 reds, find my self playing every other red into the green or yellow pocket, doesn't help that the table needs re covering and possibly new cushions!

          8ft table training routines

I've replaced my rubbers and re-clothed my 8ft table. One of the exercises I do it the Cross or T 5 reds either side of the pink 3 between pink and black 2 under the black. Start by potting red above pink and staying on pink to bottom pockets so that's 10 reds 10 pinks then work your way 5 reds 5 blacks then colours for a 137.
