Cue from the past

Im just a recreational player,and use love playing snooker,threw 80s and 90s,then stop playing,and now just got the bug again and have started playing again,bought myself a Peradon Crown (not come yet) standard butt diameter,58 inch,9.5m elkmaster,lightweight.(hope it works)
Anyway back to topic,I use to own for many years a cue I bought from a snooker magazine back then,so im hoping with the forum I can trace it.
It was a 3/4 ebony butt,and quite sure it had a maple shaft,the makers disc was in the butt.Think it was a Cannon,just not sure,the model was possibly a Whirlwind (linked to Jimmy White),watching Jimmy throughout hes career,hes cue was similiar to this one ive described,if im right.When did the 3/4 cue first make its apperance,does anyone know?

Hi, I got my first 3/4 cue which was a Cannon whirlwind plain ebony butt..they also did Cannon Hurricane which was jointed at 12 inches..if I remember rightly the Whirlwind cost me £120 the Hurricane was cheaper at £110 back in 1994 :snooker: this thread may help you more.

i made my first 3/4 in 1978, white nylon joint. noel miller cheevers offered me £250 for it in west street snooker centre. it was the only 3/4 i had ever seen

Thanks for the replies guys,thought there was at least two models,although im pretty sure my didnt have the 3-ball makers disc.Reading some of the classic posts on the forum,I found out that a member on this forum garysnooker has/had the hurricane version of these cues,and another member on the forum wrote this I think about 91 they made the cues with the billiard ball badges. I remember they had a hurricane and whirlwind available. The whirlwind was jointed at 16" and the hurricane 12". Retailed at 125 for the whirlwind and 95 for the hurricane approx. good cues back then

Pictures and specs is what we need to see,hopefully some other members could shed some more light on these cues,reading through past posts alot of people enjoyed playing with them.

no probs, the whirlwind was a good cue for the money back then, had many a big break with it mine also came with a extending extension. only thing I didn't like it was it had lacquer over the ebony butt which I removed.

I started playing with rack cues a schoolboy,then went on to the riley/sports shop type two piece mid split cues.But when I saw this 3/4 split Cannon in the magazine it looked beautiful,I knew I couldnt justify paying that sort of money,as I wasnt a good player,but I took the plunge.But when I got,god did it feel different,that in turn gave me a confidence boost,It wasnt long before as launching the cue at the white (never took lessons) so the cue action was hard and fast most times,so the breaks where ending quickly once we got into the 20s and 30s,but I got that feeling as what people describe,as "being at one with your cue".Hopefully I might get my hands on one again.

My first cue was a 2pc from Argos..I then went on to buy a power glide 3/4 also from Argos forgot about that one lol so the Cannon was my second 3/4 cue..I did see one on ebay sometime early last year brought back memorys ...best of luck in your search for one mate.

Hendry started with a Powerglide I very nearly ordered a Powerglide Striker,but decided against it as it was 57",I have a 57" Buffalo cue that was a rush buy from the snooker club,I hate it,so im hoping the Peradon Crown I ordered soughts me.Id love to find my old Cannon,maybe one has past through one of the sellers hands on here,doubt a collecter would pay much attention to it.Looked on ebay but no joy,completed listings and all.Even finding out the specs would help,although that doesnt guarentee it would play the same as the Cannon.

Thanks for thoose picks,thats a fine collection of handmade ash cues,The Hurricane looks very similar to what I had,what threw me abit was the wording on the back of the butt,as I dont remeber mine having this,not sure if I had the Whirlwind then.
Do you play with the Hurricane? How does the cue feel to others you have played with? Do you know the specs of the Hurricane?

hi George will look at specs of Hurricane later no i have not played with it some times i used the cannon ye olde ash thats a nice cue
