  • refinish/regraining cue

I’m looking into getting my cue refinished/regrained, although its only 12 months old it has a distinct blue tinge to the shaft. Presumably its because I use the kamui chalk, which I like but its very messy. I‘ve tried to clean it off, and most seems to come off however it still leaves the wood slightly stained. I’m therefore thinking that the only way to get rid of it is to get it refinished, and regrained at the same time, as it appears that it wasn't done that well originally.

I’ve looked into the threads on here and it doesn’t seem like that much work to do it yourself. A little bit of stained woodgrain filler and some oil etc, and that’s it. Which isn’t a lot, for the money that some of the cuemakers are charging for this service.

Recently I’ve also found that aurora has a product for the regraining process, has anyone used it?

Would you advise me to do this myself ? or to send it away and who to?

i've used the aurora stuff and it does the job, though it's a bit of a messy job. some linseed oil and some cue wax also helps. i'm not really bothered what it looks like as long as it feels and plays right.

Finished the refurb on my jp, very please with the results completely got rid of the blue tinge and has filled the grains well, defo would recommend the aurora product (not too messy if you're careful)

I use black boot polish from the tin..i brush it in across the grain and leave it for an hour or so the buff of and the difference is unreal for something so cheap.

Afraid not, I bought the filler and oil pack. Sorry. It is a little on the expensive side if you're only doing one cue. I have used it several times now and still have half a bottle left. It does what it's meant to and it's very easy to use. Personally I would recommend it.

I personally wouldn't do this to my cue, but each to their own. If you find it works then fine.

Hm, I was looking for something like that...
What's the consistency like, is it liquid, pasty, other? Does it say what it's made of, like "ingredients" or something...?
                        "That pocket moved!"

Consistency is similar to thick paint. When dry, it has a rubber like texture. No ingredients list, but I'd say it probably contains a blend of gums such as tragacanth etc amongst other things

Each to there own like you say i have done this on over 30 ash cues and they all look and still play fine. Just the same as using the brown craftsman cue wax theres no difference just the color.

Could you elaborate further on how you achieved this unreal polish please? Thanks.
