I have drawings for all 3, B&SCC, IBSF and WPBSA. The pro templates have the largest pockets

Is it possible to see your drawings to check our club table? Seems we have too tight middle pockets...

Need your email address as I have around 15 drawings and it's a hassle to post them here.

How big might a comfortable club pocket be?

                svendh:

I would say around 3.5 inches across the fall, however there are other factors which come in to how a pocket plays. This is the reason I sent you the drawings showing the cut of the cushion around the pocket. The golden rule is the pocket opening MUST NOT narrow after the fall of the slate so in other words it should be around 3.5" at the pocket opening at the fall of the slate and should remain at 3.5" until the back of the pocket where the cloth ends against the wood rail.

The undercut is also very important and has to be done do a ball going into the pocket ONLY hits the top flat part of the pocket cushion.

The other tricks about making pocket a little more generous is a fitter can round off the fall of the slate (a lot of clubs should do this as it prevents the cloth from being cut on the sharp-edged fall of the slate. A fitter could also round off the flat of the cushion coming into the pocket or even remove the flat part and have only the upper portion of it remaining which means a smaller part of the ball (on top) will hit the pocket cushion.

Everyone please, I used the incorrect term 'undercut' which actually refers to what you can do to the nose (flat part on top which is actually the cushion face on the rail part) of the cushion to make a pocket easier.

What I was talking about is the shape of the pocket UNDERNEATH the nose (which should carry on into the pocket opening) but underneath it the wood of the cushion should be sloped at somewhere around 60degrees (something less than 90 or straight down) so the ball hits ONLY the nose of the cushion when entering a pocket and doesn't hit the side of the pocket opening underneath the nose.

In addition, it's VERY important the pocket opening (really the nose of the cushion) doesn't narrow after the fall of the slate and should be straight back from the fall into the back of the pocket.
