Do all cue makers own lathes?

Just wondered if all cue makers own a lathe or can it all be done without one?

I don't own a lathe yet which makes some jobs tricky but not impossible. I've just got my new workshop erected and will be wanting a lathe eventually when I decide to make 3/4 jointed cues.
Money, money, money .... I seem to be spending a lot of it lately getting my new workshop built, I hope there's some left for a lathe lol

Made cues for twenty years and never had a lathe,an engineer rigged me up an old chuck attachment that I was able to do centre joints with.

I got one, eventually. Very hard to get the butt-joint right without a lathe.

Yeah I'd imagine that too no possible to make cues without one then?

You can but like everything its more difficult.

You could make one piece cues with no SD joint without the need for a lathe. A tenon could be cut with a ferrule cutter or even a knife.

Joints really require a lathe

Every one of the thousands of ferrules I have put on I have used a mini pipe cutter to get a perfect circle then use a Stanley knife and a smooth file.

Could you give an example (link) of the pipe cutter you use?

Sorry not good with links its just the smallest one available ( about inch and a half long ) from any big diy store. It is for cutting thin copper pipes, had the same one for thirty years and still works fine.
